This magnificent monument proudly portrays the 7 original tribes who established Hungary.
The monument is located in the middle of a huge square, a 10-15 minutes Metro ride from the center of town.

You must visit it when in Budapest
Aug 2019
Located in the middle of the Hősök tere, or Heroe's Square, this is a fantastic Monument. Often yu see buses or groups of walking tourists with a guide taking many photos and attentively listening to the explanations of the 18 statues of this monument. Yes, that many!
It has a great column in centre with a Statue which depicts Archangel Gabriel, who holds the Hungarian Holy Crown and the apostolic double cross in his hands.
At the base of the column are the statues of the Seven chieftains of the Magyars
There are two colonnades with statues. It is a good test to see how much you know of Hungarian Heroes :-)
I loved to visit this monument.

Iconic
Dec 2019
The Millenium Monument is situated in Heroes Square, which is easy to access from the downtown by the M1 metro line.
This monument was completed in 1896 to commemorate Hungary's 1,000th anniversary as a nation settled in the Carpathian Basin.
An absolute must to see!

An imposing, impressive monument!
Jun 2019
The concierge at our hotel had recommended a visit to visit Heroes Square. Consequently we walked in that direction along Andrássy Avenue until we decided to catch a bus the rest of the way to the square.
When we arrived at Heroes Square, the plaza was teeming with members of various tour groups, all jockeying for position to get the best position for photographs of the various statues and monuments situated in the large square.
The Millennium Monument is situated right across one end of the square. It is a vast, imposing memorial both in terms of height and width. The memorial consists of a very tall central column with a statue of the archangel Gabriel perched atop it. On either side of the giant column are colonnades featuring statues of various Hungarian statesmen of historical significance.
The Millennium Monument is certainly an impressive memorial and it should be on the “must-see” list of any tourist visiting Budapest.

Commemorating seven Magyar tribes’ chieftains
Dec 2018 • Solo
A must when in Budapest.

Dominating the centre of Heroes square, The the 36 m high column monument was built for the 1896 Millennium celebrations, that’s why it is called Millennium Monument.

Archangel Gabriel stands on top of the center pillar, holding the holy crown and the double cross of Christianity.
According to the story, Gabriel appeared to St. Stephen in his dream and offered him the crown of Hungary.
Pope Sylvester II indeed sent a crown to St Stephen acknowledging Hungary and King Stephen as a defender of Christendom.

Equestrian statues of the seven Magyar tribes’ chieftains led by Arpard, encircle the column.

A semicircled colonnade encompasses the column with statues of Hungarian kings and heroes.

Impressive monument that dominates Heroes Square.
Sep 2018 • Couples
This huge monument celebrates the 1,000 year anniversary of the foundation of Hungary by the seven Magyar tribes in the 9th century. It was built progressively from 1896 to 1906 by various sculptors.

The centrepiece of the monument is a 36 metre tall column topped by a 5 metre tall statue of the Archangel Gabriel who holds the Crown of St Stephen in one hand and a two barred cross in the other. At the base of the column are seven equestrian statues representing the Chiefs of the 7 Magyar tribes whose names appear on the plinth.

At the back, and on each side of the column, are two matching colonnades that stand 20 metres high. Each colonnade has seven statues representing significant figures of Hungarian history. There are bronze reliefs showing their main action beneath each statue. There are also 4 huge statues on the top of each edge of the colonnades representing Peace, Knowledge and Glory, Labour and Wealth and War.

It is a very impressive monument.
