Apparently there was a cemetery chapel here already in Roman times - under the church were built at the end of the 2nd century. World War II discovered the old rooms. Unfortunately, I only found it closed - but also from the outside it is worth several looks. Very nice statues in the facade.

Built, in 1941, St. Roch's Chapel is one of the oldest churches in Budapest. Not the little baroque style building, that can be seen next to Rákóczi Street, but the crypt below. During a renovation, the remains of a three-leaf clover-shaped early Christian prayer site, cella trichora have been found. No data about the age of it - or at least I couldn’t find it- but its early Christian origin indicates an age of around 2000.
The building next to the chapel advertises an urn cemetery.
Also interesting is the sign on the wall of the chapel with a mark, showing the water level of the Great Danube flood in 1838.
The column in the square in front of the chapel with the statue of Immaculata is a replica of the original one, the was demolished in the communist era.

The Chapel of St. Roch is adjacent to and attached to the public hospital of the same name. The current structure was completed around 1711, at the site of older churches, which some say go back to the 4th century AD. The present chapel was built in an attempt to protect the city (Pest) from the then raging black plague. Decades later an hermitage was added to the chapel an later still, a crypt. The church has undergone multiple additions, restorations and remodelings, including the addition of the great frescoes on the interior walls and the multiple stone sculptures both inside the chapel and on the facade. The hospital was added almost a century after the chapel was built. The chapel houses relics of St. Roch, St. Rosalie and St. Sebastian, as well as a piece of the Holy Cross. The facade is decorated by well-executed stone sculptures of multiple saints: Roch, Rosalie, Elizabeth, Stephen, Margaret, Laszlo and Emeric (these five, being Hungarian saints), as well as John Nepomuk and Gellert. To the right of the main entrance there is a large stone crucifix with a stone statue of the Madonna at the bottom.

This chapel is in a central location at Pest, just near a big building ( I think it’s a hospital). Even though the main entrance was locked, I couldn’t take my eyes from the high statue of Madonna, just outside the chapel. If you are passing by, take a look.
