Address
Neighborhood: District VII / Jewish Quarter
District VII is the very heart of Budapest and houses the city’s Jewish Quarter. Its streets are lively and colorful, its buildings narrate different histories in an assortment of architectural styles, and its cafes and bars are frequented and loved by the enthusiastic crowds. Grand and magnificent, the striking star of the district is the Great Synagogue, the largest in Europe and one of the biggest in the world. Distinctly Moorish in style, crowned by the twin onion shaped domes, the Synagogue is the very emblem of District VII and one of the main attractions in the capital.

Small and cozy, almost like a neighborhood pub. Great beer selection, 10 taps of top quality beers from best local and imported breweries, plus some good stuff in the fridge. Frequently changed with updated list in social networks. Passionate and generous owners. Cool vibe. Great place for craft beer lovers.

Step downstairs to a wonderful experience of Hungarian craft beer! Not only is the venue pretty cool and off the beaten path - it looks like an old wine cellar or tunnel, but the staff is top notch and very knowledgeable on Hungarian and other craft beer. They had about 10 beers on draft, most, if not all were Hungarian in addition to a number of craft beers in bottles from around the world.
The staff is very friendly and love to talk about beer. Great recommendations to match my palate, great music and an overall cool vibe away from the tourists. If you make it to Budapest and are looking for some very tasty local beers, try Polyhistor.

Great staff and a really decent selection of beers.
It's a pity this friendly bar was pretty quiet when we visited. There's a great range of beers and the barman was very knowledgeable and helpful.
Locals are friendly and chatty. Music was nu-metal, but not too loud or intimidating. I'd go back quite happily; it would make a great place to hang out with friends.
You do need to walk down a fairly dodgy street to get to it. There are a couple of sex shops and we were propositioned on the way there.
The sign outside could be fixed, too. This would make it look so much more inviting. I'm glad we went in, though.

We were the only customers in the place when we arrived at 8pm and when we left an hour later. The beers cost about 1400 HUF on average (beers in Budapest are normally about half of that). There was goth metal playing the entire time. I tried a Chipotle Porter because it sounded interesting, it wasn't spicy but it was bitter – in the unpleasant way, not like an IPA. I didn't even finish half of the beer. Google listed it as a "gastro pub" but there was no food to order whatsoever.

Anyways, do yourself a favor and skip it.

We sat here by ourselves. The beer selection was impressive and the bartender quite knowledgeable, but it's strange sitting in an empty basement.

This is not a bar; this is an experience!!!! The owners are amazing and you are not just served a beer; you are served an experience.

Great craft beers from interesting locations (hence not all Hungarian) on tap...

So come on in, wander down the stairs and find a great place in a vaulted cellar ceiling setting. Engage with the bartender, with a little luck it is one of the owners and you will leave both happy and a little wiser where it comes to the Central European craft beer industry.
