Charming but very busy square with some market stalls and the “Fashion Street” with its designer brands. It also leads to a few sightseeing spots. The small shops in that area selling gifts to bring home are extremely overpriced but we found the market stalls and a little supermarket up from the ice bar was cheaper than most. The 100e bus from the airport stops at 3 places ( the bus drops at Astoria on the way from the airport but not on the return for some reason) and only 2 on the way back! Budapest has lovely architecture and the sights can be walked to for most of them (even by us unfit over 50’s). The metro and bus service search on the BudapestGo app was very handy and the tickets bought can be used on both modes of transport but not the airport bus or tourist trolley buses.

Deák Ferenc Square is likely Budapest’s liveliest square in the evening. I’ve stayed at the Ritz-Carlton across the street from the square, and often get on and off the subway (This is an interchange for Metro Subway Lines I, 2, and 3.) and buses at Deák Ferenc Station. One new thing I noticed this month, was the Michael Jackson tree. I’ll attach photos of it.
During the day, many people cross the area while catching buses and subways, or going to nearby different parts of the city.
There are eateries, cafes, and bars in the square. These are most active in the evening, and especially on weekends.

This is a central, yet utterly charmless, square, where you can find the major MRT hub, several hotels and countless restaurants.

Here is non stop busy and lively.. you have the big BUDAPEST sign for great photo option. The hop on hop off buses are here. The metro station is here also and so is the airport bus stop.
There are lots of food places ..souvenirs and chocolate shops galore. Really a nice area just to hang out and have fun.

I walked from the Basilica to this Square, not knowing what its name was. As I continued my walk, I saw the Budapest Eye or Ferris wheel, young boys practicing their skate boarding techniques, statues, Anglican Church, hotels, vendors selling hop on/hop off bus rickets, etc.
Very busy area, but nice to enjoy the ambience around here!

This downtown square is a major intersection, surrounded by famous buildings. On one side is the Anker Palace's easily recognizable structure, on the other hand, is the Evangelical Church, and the Ritz Carlton, already decorated with Christmas trees. The massive wheel of the Budapest Eye is lazily towering above the square; no desperate visitors are going up in this foggy, rainy weather. From a distance, the dome of the Basilica emerges from the mist. There is loud music from the Starbucks café, and Christmas fair is inviting the visitors, offering blue wine, and kürtőskalács, a Hungarian specialty pastry. There are still some leaves on the trees, and the flowerbeds are decorative, but the statue of the bathing girl looks into the empty pool shivering with cold. Despite the unfriendly weather a lot of people swirling around on this always busy square.
