Address
Neighborhood: District VII / Jewish Quarter
District VII is the very heart of Budapest and houses the city’s Jewish Quarter. Its streets are lively and colorful, its buildings narrate different histories in an assortment of architectural styles, and its cafes and bars are frequented and loved by the enthusiastic crowds. Grand and magnificent, the striking star of the district is the Great Synagogue, the largest in Europe and one of the biggest in the world. Distinctly Moorish in style, crowned by the twin onion shaped domes, the Synagogue is the very emblem of District VII and one of the main attractions in the capital.

Stumbled upon this cozy bar and decided to go in for a drink. Boy it was a good decision since the bartender was generous with the drinks - the alchohol that goes into the coctail, as well as the welcome drink, we got a tasting of Hungarian local palinka. They seem to know their spirits, so if you are looking for a place where to grab your drinks, this is it.

Popped in for a drink but the bar area is far too small and the bar staff take ages to serve you considering the place doesn't hold many customers. Cocktail menu looked good but ordered a gin which was nice, we quickly left as there wasn't much atmosphere.

Place was maybe half full. We went in, both bartenders looked busy, one was stiring a drink and the other just talking to people. I kindly asked if there's any menu. The stirer said something I couldn't understand, so I asked again whether there's a menu we can look at. That's when the bartender, for a lack of a better word, snapped. He looked at me, and said at a very aggresive way, showing his teeth like he was asked to play the part of an "angry bartender" at an improv club: "SIT DOWN, AND WHEN I FINISH I WILL GIVE YOU THE MENU". I was so pissed off that I just stormed out while the guy spoke Hungarian to the other bartender, I'm guessing nothing kind. I would recommend you skip this pretencious place, not sure why it got this rating, people nowadays just call it hipster and like it. I know hipster. This was pretencious.

Unassuming small location that boasts a huge array of liquors to create just about any cocktail you can think of, on and off the menu. The decor is a great old-timey pharmacy-themed shop. The bartenders knew their stuff and friendly, made for a great experience. If you like cocktails and a good time, just go!

Really expensive for Budapest, no atmosphere, quiet music, one member of staff typing away on his laptop at the bar which was just odd, drinks are average. Plenty of other bars with great atmospheres close by !

About 30 minutes ago, I left this place both confused and on the brink of tears.

Having just moved to Budapest from Toronto, Canada, I stumbled upon this little place mistaking it for a small coffee shop, When I say little, it's smaller than my walk in closet back home and can only seat 5.

Embarrassed by my mistake, I decided to have a solo cocktail as I was the only patron, It was not a very nice experience to say the least. I was not greeted warmly at all by the bartender who was trying real hard to be "hispster cool". Without looking at the menu, I asked for something feminine and not too strong. I was instead served a very strong, gin only cocktail with pure parsley. Really missed the mark on feminine....

Then, this was the odd part. The bartender's 2 friends entered, they went into the corner, and they completely left me alone. Nobody ever returned to ask me how I liked my drink (which really, was horrible), or if I wanted another, or even to pay. !5 minutes later I asked for my bill. I was charged 10 euros, and nobody even said thank you or goodbye to me.... how odd for a completely empty place?

I've only been in two bars since my arrival. The rooftop lounge of the Aria hotel, and the budha bar. Both very upmarket, service oriented with beautiful decor and great vibe. I walked over to a local pub down the street, perplexed, and had a 2 dollar french fry with much better service.

I would strongly recommend taking your euros, pounds and dollars to a place that is worth your time. I've come across so many friendly, hard working Hungarians in my two nights here that I have no idea how this place is even in business.

This is a fab little bar with awesome cocktails- they really go to effort to make some amazing concoctions. Really cool atmosphere. It isn’t cheap though, expect to pay London prices for most of the drinks.

Place looks nice and all, but cocktails are simply not good and pricey. Huge disappointment. Don’t bother.

We stopped in on a weekday night for drinks. We were the only patrons in the bar, aside from one person who seemed to be friends with the bartender (who turned out to be the owner). The bar itself is nicely decorated, and the cocktail list is extensive.

We noticed pretty immediately, however, that the owner was standoffish towards us. He and his friend were very obviously talking about us in Hungarian. They’d look at us, say something, roll their eyes and laugh, repeat. We weren’t doing anything noteworthy or odd, just looking at the drink menu. Whatever, I don’t let things like that bother me on vacation, so I just brushed it off.

We mentioned to the owner that the owner of another nearby bar had recommended this place, and he became a little bit friendlier after that. We ordered 3 cocktails and he legit took about 20 minutes to make them, no exaggeration. I was prepared for these cocktails to be amazing because of how long they took. They were simply ok; visually appealing, but the taste was pretty mediocre.

There are better cocktail bars with friendlier staff/owners in the vicinity, so I wouldn’t really recommend Bar Pharma.
