About
AHIRU is the restaurant of one of the most talented members of the new Hungarian chef generation, Ádám Garai, in Pannónia Gastroboat, where he prepares authentic fusion dishes from 100 percent Hungarian ingredients. The boat is not only a part of a fantastic fine dining experience for the guest, but also the antique interior and the wonderful evening lights, the sights of Budapest, the sailing on the Danube, provide a complex, lifelong experience. We consider it important that foreign guests and businessmen arriving in Budapest, who spend only a few days in Hungary, can take a look at the quality gastronomy of the countryside. On the restaurant boat we using high-quality raw materials from domestic producers, presenting the regions, production areas and wine regions of Hungary. The monthly changing menu relate to country flavors, which are combinated with excellent Hungarian wines.

I booked this experience for my wife’s birthday, what can I say? It’s one of the best experiences we have had together, the food was perfection to say the least and the wine was perfectly suited to compliment the food.
We were served by Krisztián Fábián, his knowledge of the wine and their regions was amazing, the explanation of the food clear and precise, he made the dining experience even better so a big thank you to him.
Let’s not forget the staff behind the scene, the chefs obviously-wow and the captain- all together the best experience!
If you get a chance (and I know it isn’t cheap) but believe me you will not regret this! Keep up the amazing work!!!!

We had an amazing experience at Pannonia. We have tried a lot of different restaurants in Budapest but this one is definitely on top of our favorites list. Respectful, helpful and yet still funny staff, delicious food and beautiful environment. Definitely don’t miss it out if you’re visiting Budapest

We have just spent 800 pounds for 8 of us to do this dinner cruise. It was a beautiful boat trip, the food was excellent and the wine good BUT there was not enough of any of it! Tiny portions, small small amounts of wine - perhaps less than 100dl and less than 2.5 hours on the boat when we were promised 3 hours. It is so sad because everything was perfect but the portions have left us feeling completely ripped off. I am so sorry to say this as the staff did a really great job. It was reminiscent of the nouvelle cuisine of the 1980s. Going home hungry!

I consider myself a person that tries to be honest in my reviews of things. I can honestly say, hands down, that this was one of the most unforgettable experiences I've ever had. After extensively researching what river cruises were on offer, I was thrilled that I found Pannonina.

You'll need to contact them in advance of wanting to go to check for availability. Luckily, we emailed in the morning of the night we wanted to go. You'll need to give them your mobile phone number so they can contact you personally and let you know whether there is availability. Thankfully, there was and after speaking to them on the phone, they send you a weblink to complete the reservation. You need to pay beforehand and it costs 40,000 HUF pp. For two of us this roughly equated to a little over £200GBP. You need to put this into perspective: this was for a Michellin Star river cruise WITH dinner AND wine pairing for each course. You couldn't get the same experience in London for that price - at least I don't think so.

In the email they send you, they tell you where to arrive. For us, it was near the Intercontinental Hotel on the banks of the Danube. The cruise departs at 19:30, but you need to be there at 19:00. While you're waiting, you wait on a different ship where you can buy a drink and take it with you to the river cruise. The dress code is smart-casual.

The menu is seasonal and is inspired by Hungarian gastronomy. There is wine pairing with every course including a glass of Prosecco to begin. You can access the menu on the website, but this may be subject to change without notice. They say that they can change their wine list and years but this won't compromise the quality.

Nothing about this experience was sub-standard. The staff were exceptional. The food was phenomenal; the sights were stunning and the wine was incredible. We were even given a 'surprise' course that wasn't listed on the menu: risotto and chroizo! There wasn't one element of this I didn't enjoy.

The experience lasts about 2 hours. It starts by taking you up to the Parliament building, and then back down the Danube all the way to Rakoczi hid and then all the way back up to Parliament building before finishing at its port of origin. For those who may feel hesitant about going due to sea-sickness I wouldn't worry too much - we didn't feel any kind of swaying or rocking, it was very slow and really smooth.

This was well worth the money with truly amazing food for 6 courses with excellent wine pairings. The staff was very attentive and able to tell us about each course. You can't beat it for an intimate dining experience and get to be in a lovely old boat and see the sites on the Danube at night.

If money isn’t an issue, this is very worth while for an evening date while in Budapest. The boat is small and very comfortable and can have a maximum of 20 people dining. Our dinner included only 3 on board. This made up for an amazing private experience. The service was exceptional. The six course dinner ended up being a 9 course. We had three surprise courses served to us and food quality was very good. We didn’t say “ OMG” about every dish, but everything was impeccably cooked and presented, some of it was just good and some was brilliant.
As there were only three of us on board this felt more of a private boat trip. Our individual wishes got catered for and we ended up eating two of the last courses on the front our the ship, outside. They set up a table especially for us there as they have noticed we really enjoyed the view and the breeze and decided not to ask ask to move back In.

It was also very nice to not have hordes of other tourists share the experience with you. We passed few ships bursting with people. And felt fortunate to have space and ability to enjoy every angle of the boat with out any problems. Do yourself a favour and do this if you are considering it and can afford it. Especially if it’s for a special occasion. The views from the boat are incredible also, you will not be disappointed.

We went on the Pannonia Gastroboat on the 5 March and were only one of two couples aboard that evening. Notwithstanding this, we were treated to Michelin star quality food and the service was very attentive (but not intrusive) from beginning to end. The wine was plentiful and very enjoyable also.

The views from on board are superb and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience - will book again next time we visit.

My wife and I had such a great experience. The alternative this same night for us was the Stand both game highly recommended by the Four Seasons Concierge. To be honest, we were initially worried it would be too touristy. The experience was absolutely fantastic, not at all touristy and with good good food and wine with a local touch and not complicated. The wine was so good that we ended up asking the chef whether we could buy a few bottles as the next day was a Sunday and stores would be closed until we departed.
