As I live in Budapest I was delighted to discover so much more about this city in a fascinating tour with Hunscapes in my neighbourhood. For example, I had walked on part of a pedestrian street many times without realising that beneath my feet were specific markings showing where Vaci gate - one of the ancient city wall gates - had once stood. I was thrilled to be shown the type of folk art shop I had wanted to find. Full of lovely Hungarian woven textiles, vibrantly embroidered Matyo folk-art which made such an impact at the millennium exhibition in 1896 In Budapest. Ornamented black pottery and the Miska wine jug from the Central Tisza region. To then marvel at men's handcrafted shoes.in materials including from the stingray, eel, shark, and snake and an innovative store which had created unusual gift ideas based on Hungarian inventions including the ballpoint pen and Rubik's cube. Exceptional discoveries all interspersed with Robert's wealth of historical knowledge.

Having a free afternoon in Budapest I decided I should take a walking tour to get better acquainted with the city. A friend suggested one of Robert’s, having had an enjoyable excursion with him a few weeks previously, and I chose his “4 sites : 4 stories” tour, which covered the areas around the Central Market in Pest and Gellert Hill in Buda. Both Robert and this tour were good choices. It’s an interesting area with a lot of history and Robert had a great deal of information about it, much of it backed up with illustrations and photographs of how the various sites looked in the past. He had a wealth of stories, both about this area and about Budapest generally, which made the tour come alive – I had a number of questions during our walk and he was able to answer them all immediately! Robert is an affable host, speaks excellent English (he’s spent time in the UK) and clearly loves his subject. I thoroughly enjoyed the tour, it really helped me to feel more “grounded” in Budapest and I shall certainly choose another of his tours if – when! - I return to this wonderful city - köszönöm szépen, Robert, thank you very much!

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour with Robert. He did a wonderful job tailoring the tour to fit our desires. He took us to really interesting stores that we would never have seen! He also took us to stores that had exactly the things we were looking for! It was really reassuring knowing that we were getting authentic locally crafted products! He was also very knowledgeable about the area and history of the city. This is the first time I have done a Shopping Tour and I will most definitely look for them in the next city we travel to! Well worth your money and a real timesaver as you can be directed to the best stores and artists!

This is a lovely stretch of the river to experience as there is such variety. I've been on 3 of these Danube canoe and kayak tours now, and have known Robert (manager of Hunscapes) for around a year. The tours I went on started off by paddling upstream past relaxed beach bars, then under a main bridge and alongside a huge wooded island that is a national park, before landing on a small island only accessible by boat (where we went to the island's only bar for drinks and snacks). On the journey upstream we stopped a few times to take a break, cool off in the river, and take in the scenery. It's great to experience the Danube close up, and to benefit from Robert's knowledge of the river and its wildlife. Heading back is a treat - gliding along effortlessly with the flow of the river! Highly recommended.
