The area
Address
Neighborhood: District I / Buda
The historical center to a city with a multifarious and intricate past, Buda has some of the most outstanding buildings in Europe and an enviable natural landscape with stunning views onto the Danube. Centered around the Royal Palace, it provides a glimpse into the golden years of the Austro-Hungarian empire and the lives led by the aristocracy at the time. Matthias Church, beside the palace, hosted many events attended by the royal family and was the chosen place for the coronation of Franz Josef, one of the Hungarian Habsburg kings. Having admired the palace and the church, a visit to Buda will be unforgettable by the stunning and memorable panorama over Pest offered by the seven towered Fishermen’s Bastion.

Tiny museum, but worth a visit if you are in the Castle district. You can hear some interesting stories of Houdini. The show was fine, nice tricks, good magician, but not a real showman. The museum has mask and sanitization rules in place but some visitors do not keep them, the rooms are tiny so keep it in mind if you are on a higher alert regarding the pandemic. Both the owner and his staff are very friendly, very polite and very enthusiastic. And Napoleon, the cat is very cute.

Great museum and celebration of hungarian-born Houdini and the art of illusions!

We had a magical time at the House of Houdini. A great exhibition and magic show. Very good English speaking guides with vast knowledge on the life of Houdini. Very fun meeting the owner and internationally acclaimed escape artist David Merlini. My son Gabriel (7) was especially happy. The beautiful castle area makes this museum even more special. The only thing Budapest now needs is a plaque on the building in Csengery utca 1 to commemorate Houdini’s birth address. Keep up the good work! Houdini was indeed hungarian!

Dear Ruphus, What a great pleasure it was to welcome you and Gabriel. It would be a terrific idea to have a plaque on the building of Csengery utca, but according to our research the original house no longer stands, instead the tall concrete building of the Tax Authority is now there. Not sure if they would be happy about the plaque :)

Most recommended attraction for families in Buda side 👍, with attractive magic show. David, the managing director, is tremendously hospitable.

The guide lady is cute and friendly, And have a guy in nice uniform other magican. Small museum part all part original Houdini relics and memorial. If buy the ticket have small guide from Houdini life, very interesting and amazing story. And have more short magic show with card tricks and other mindblowing tricks. So this place very cool the best place this time.

We visited the house of Houdini. Nice tour ( thanks to the guide who tales good stories) with a few things ( 2 or 3) which belong to Houdini but not much ( lots of pictures and press articles) and above all the place is SO small and we were too manypeople on the tiny 2 rooms! It lasted 35 mn thanks to a 20 mn magic show, simple but nice. For the price (2400 forint each), don t worth it!!

ok tribute to Harry Houdini
Jun 2019
This place sounded interesting. We wanted to buy our tickets online as we didn't have much cash and I think it was cheaper to buy online, but the wifi was horrible (we didn't have a data plan) so it was a bit of a hassle to deal with the tickets. Once we were in though there was a tour guide and a few rooms with information about his life (he was born in Hungary) and some of the items he used, like lock picks. There were photos and descriptions, but it was relatively small. At the end of the tour was a magic show. There was a bit of a delay in starting but once we did the magic was sort of fun, though the magician seemed a little unsure of himself (and I don't think it was just an act). Overall it was an ok museum with some information you probably didn't know about before, but it wasn't great.

Well done!!
Feb 2020 • Couples
Hello,
I was with my partner last month in the Houdini museum. We didn’t enjoy it so much and my partner wrote a bad review about it.
Than the owner of the museum contact us privately and wanted to know more about our experience and what happened that we didn’t enjoy it. He really took it seriously and try so much to fix our experience. Eventually he send us via mail a full refund and a small present and an official letter from the museum. We were very impressed and great-full about his hard work in doing everything he can do to make us feel better with it.
Everyplace can have failures but it’s more important to places to know how to recover from each failure and this museum did it wonderful! And for that we highly recommend on it!
Well done! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Worth a visit

An entertaining way to spend about an hour. You get a 30 minute traditional magic show with audience participation and then a tour of a small museum with a knowledgeable guide.
