About
This cycling path connects many coastal cities and towns of Slovenia and offers some spectacular views over Piran and Izola. Between Portoroz and Koper are two climbs, but easy to manage also for people with less experience of cycling. We did it with kids and it was great - kids really loved driving through tunnels.

Walking along Parenzana is a useful pastime if you are visiting the Slovenian coast in spring or in autumn. In summer it is a bit too hot. Parenzana is a cycling path or a footpath linking the towns on the coast and also inland. As this was previously a railway route, there are also a few tunnels along the way. We only walked a short part of the route from Portorož to Strunjan, which takes about an hour. There is also a long tunnel between these two towns, but it is well lit. Most of the path is covered with asphalt, so it is also suitable for cyclists. You can also take a longer walk, e.g. as far as Izola, and then take a bus back if you are tired.

Nice way for biking. Comfortable cycling road. Not many ascents and descents. On the way are also snack bars, some tunnels. Mostly basis dirt.

TRASA Koper - Semedela - Izola - Strunjan - Portoroz- (Lucija - Piran)
The entire Slovenian route Parenzana is asphalted and is placed within the network of sport routes below the code D8. From the stop in Lucija to Piran, it's been high-powered by an electrical tram, and these days you'll be able to take this route on the sport route K8 or K12.

One of the darkest events within the history of Parenzana happened in March 1921 in Strunjan, once a bunch of Italian fascists discharged from kids within the section of the station from a pure judgement. 2 kids area unit dead and 5 kids wounded- The tragic event is well known within the song The Sun has unsuccessful within the literary composition, and therefore the names of the deceased kids area unit graven into a monument to the victims of political orientation in Strunjan.

Great for biking with family. Nice nature, no cars and no hard climbs since it was a rail way. Also nice stops on the way. If you love biking you must try it.

We did the Koper-Portoroz-Secoveljske Soline part with two children (6 and 8) in October. It is not flat but still, the children managed the ascents. The view is picturesque - especially at Izola. The route is unique with the tunnels, once used by the railway. The road is in good condition, most parts are traffic free. This road (D-8) is easy to find but be prepared with a detailed map when choosing other routes, as they are hard to find...

We cycled a part of the route, from Lucija to Isola, passing through the tunnels and alongside olive groves and vineyards. It is almost completely traffic-free so very good for small children. Some guides say it is flat, which is inaccurate as it is quite undulating in places. Most of the cycle hire places have route maps. There is not a lot of shelter, so take loads of water in summer.

The path is indeed full of history, as it is on the route of the former narrow-gauge train route of Trieste-Porec. Really cool. You have to have bike.

Recently opened on old motor road along the sea. An easy ride, and lovely, the perfect way to travel. The sun glinted off the sea and clouds and mountains in the distance. Can stop to swim in warmer weather. The route is part of old rail line from Trieste to Porec. The whole trail must be lovely and not too hard.

We hired bikes from the information centre and headed out along the D8 through the tunnel. The route is very picturesque and there are a lot of vineyards once you exit the tunnel and follow the D8. You don't even need that long either, you can have a bike for three hours and also go visit the salt farm along the D8.

Great cycling road where a railway used to be. The most picturesque part with 2 tunnels is betwen Portoroz and Izola. The part from Izola to Koper runs along the coast - bring swimingsuits

Pessima compagnia!

Looking to do part of the Parenzana trail by bike. Hoping someone can tell me which part has the tunnels and bridges. Any advice of which section to do and where to hire bikes. Maybe a section of up to 50-60km return. We will probably be renting a car in Rovinj and staying in Istria somewhere.

How steep are the hills on the Parenzana trail? I only ride a bike every 10 years or so but am in average shape, can walk 20 km in a day easily. Will the hills be too much over a 14 km bike ride?
Written March 27, 2018
I guess it's too late, anyway:
I rode it last week (january 2019). There are no Hills to climb. The ascends are always pleasant. In Slovenja it is paved (labelled D8), in Croatia you need a mountainbike (gravel, sometimes rough). But it is beautiful and a wonderful experience.
