Very interesting place. We had to hike uphill to get to it. It is quite small but some lovely paintings and a small museum. The cloisters themselves were lovely, very quiet and serene. It is still an active monastery! I would recommend going there. We really enjoyed our visit!

A serene space in the town that is calm and cool. There's a fantastic 500-year old seat made from the stump and roots of an olive tree, and some interesting items to see in the chapel.

While the interiors of the churches not only in Piran, but on most of the Istrian coast, both Slovenian and Croatian, have lost their original Middle-Ages or Renaissance appearance and mostly have a baroque or late Baroque style (and the church of San Francesco, pertaining to the cloister, is no exception), this cloister appears to be an eminent and cheering Renaissance's work.
The arcades, distributed regularly on the four sides of the cloister, enclose a simple courtyard, just adorned in the center by a beautiful well-head.
When we visited it, the cloister also hosted a beautiful show on farm terraces created over the centuries in many countries around the world. This show, with its beautiful photos, was for us another reason of appreciation.

It is easy to miss the cloisters because the entrance is just in an ordinary looking street going up the hill from the main square. For this reason perhaps not so many tourists visit it.
To get the best of it needs a guidebook or a guide as there is very little in the way of explanations provided.
The cloisters themselves are plain but with interesting artifacts - such as the seat made from a very old olive tree.
The church is typical but nonetheless beautiful.
Recommended.

Without a guide this atmospheric hidden gem will not mean a great deal. I’d strongly recommend using a local guide for the cloisters and the associated church. Well worth seeing and discovering the recent history.

It is a nice atmospheric cloister. Worth a quick peek inside.
If you have seen more beautiful cloisters, this is an average nice one.
If you have never seen a nice old atmospheric cloister. This is a good example.

We happened upon this lovely cloisters and its associated church while tracking down the various ancient and historic churches of Piran. The Cloisters are absolutely stunningly lovely, serene, and timelessly evocative. There is no more serene and elegant spot we have found in Slovenia.

When we entered Monastery a group of 7 men just started chanting mediaval monasteric choirs. I say visiting with live music was a experience beyond all expectations. Every one of us enjoyed thi visit.

Saint Francis Monastery is a noble complex of church, open yard with arcades and huge monastery. It is partly transformed to a museum with permanent and temporary exhibitions. Open yard is a place for summer concerts. They are magic on summer or autumn evenings. Church is also worth a visit, even a guided tour.

I love the courtyard which is one of the most pictoresque in Slovenia! There is also a museum and the entrance to two churches fro the courtyard. Great place for exibitions and different events as well
