About
The Old Vine, the oldest vine in the world, resides in Maribor right at the centre of the old town. The Old Vine, with an age that spans over 400 years, won its place into the Guinness World Records by being the oldest noble vine in the world still bearing grapes; there is no room for doubt about this as experts have confirmed that it is indeed the oldest! From its clusters come the Žametovka, also known as Blaufränkisch, a variety of grape which masters annually squeeze for its precious juice. The Old Vine symbolizes the rich wine culture of Maribor and Slovenia, and finally the entire world. Today, descendants of this great vine are grown almost all over the world. A lot of symbolism Let the Old Vine tell you her story; this venerable lady speaks of wine, resilience, and life energy. Let yourself be inspired by its immense power, both symbolically and with the energy from the fruit of its sisters.

I was very disappointed in the staff behavior and knowledge of wine (I'm not an expert and I expected some kind of expertise). We had to pay for a tasting that didn't give us any insight and local wines, practices nor history and the staff behaved like everything we asked was a hassle. I regretted spending time and money there. I didn't learn or see anything that made us dropping by, worth. Very poor customer experience.

Slovenian wine is exceptional: definitely recommend a tasting here. Of course, I wanted to take some home and they offered packing materials for transport. Located along the river which makes for a lovely walk to reach Old Vine.

During our visit in Maribor we went around to all the popular wine tasting spots. We found this one to be the best. The exibition is great with just a small piece of history about the vine and the wine. The staff is superfriendly and more than willing to share their knowledge about both local history and wine.

This is the oldest grape vine in the world which survived centuries of mishandling, 2 world wars, etc. The entrance to the museum is free and here you can get a lot of information regarding vine tradition in this part of the world. The vine from this grapes is the protocollar vine of city of Maribor and the offsprings of this plant are very rare.

There is no ticket. Entrance to museum is free! I can't say that excursion is so interesting just information about different kinds of grapes and wine. But you can taste the most popular wines (and also buy it) in Maribor and the price of tasting is not more then 5-7 eur.

My husband and I went to Maribor specifically to see the oldest documented vine and it was lovely. Stara Trta was just as good and we left with several bottles of wine. :-)

Exhibition is short but enough to explain the story of the oldest vine plant, and all the local usages around it. On top, local staff is very helpful if you want to discover the vineyards around Maribor, and will give you a lot of advices. Thanks again!

Lovely setting by the river Drava and very interesting to see the vine which still produces grapes. Inside you can see the history and try the various local wines with a wine tasting. Very good value.
