About Ptich
Creating memorable music experiences and city tours, Ptich is a cultural tourism project of the Urbana Vrana Institute. It is based on the community-conscious scholarly research and everyday-life experience. While adoring Slovenia’s Roman, Medieval, Austria-Hungarian and Communist periods, our tours focus also on contemporary social and cultural traits of Slovenia: its various music genres, subcultures, urban lifestyles, feminism, graffiti, street art, urban gardening, culinary traditions, Slovenian wines, craft beers etc. Ptich tries to be a relevant part of local communities, inspecting their social aspects through in-depth research and promoting their creativity through boutique city walks, bicycle tours and music trips. Coming from the authentic local culture scene, our guides combine knowledge of history and art, on the one hand, and contemporary sociology and cultural studies, on the other, to be able to provide you with the most amazing ancient and contemporary stories.

In this exploration of Tito's Socialist Yugoslavia, which Slovenia was a part of, communist gems come to life, including typical architecture, Coca Cola's communist factories, socialist punk music and Luka Dončič's basketball predecessors. Comparing the Communist past and Capitalist present, the tour shows the influence of communism and workers’ self-management on today’s life in Slovenia. It showcases amazing examples of Yugo-nostalgia, cult of personality, brutalist architecture, the "spomenik" monuments, attitude towards religion, censorship and the secret police jail. Ljubljana Socialist Punk Music Tour By Bicycle (small group)

The 1970s and 1980s punk music in Slovenia was amazing. It was very unique in the Communist East. And very unique in the whole world! ‘Children of Socialism’, 'Via Ofenziva', ‘Ljubljana Dogs’, ‘Bastards’, ‘Berlin Wall’, ‘Ciao Bitches!’, ‘The Tattletales’ and ‘Niet’, these are just a few names of the bands that were turning an alternative scene into an opposition movement. The Slovenian punk scene was comprised of middle-class and working-class youth that was often beaten up and imprisoned by Communist authorities. However, many of the punk bands were supported by the League of Socialist Youth and were able to release their records on state-controlled labels. Come and join a bike ride back to the socialist punk times, accompanied by amazing music and radical lyrics.

The tour was really great. It is an honor riding with the punk legend and reciving the first hand information on how life was back in the punk days. It made me nostalgic for a time I didn't even live in. It's a nice view into punk sceen and Esad's life. Very educational. The ride wasn't hard and it had an awesome musical accompaniment. 100% recommend and will do it again.

The Tour with living legend of punk, poetry, jurnalism and basketball Esad Babacic! Easy going bicycle tour around Ljubljana visiting hot spots of late seventies and early eighties punk rock times. Esad composes the birth of punk rock in Slovenia and Ljubljana through his life story and experience of a young boy growing up in a working class family. A lot of unheard stories and unseen parts on a journey through time and space. Very best three hours spent on a bicycle, must attend! Very recommended!

The tour speaks about the forgotten women of Ljubljana. It is presented by Jasmina who during the tour presents the protagonists in their historic context and takes us from the witch-hunting times to the modern divided history of Slovenia. It was certainly an eye-opener and helps to raise the awareness which is direly needed if women are ever to be recognized for their achievements equally to men. At the same time, the tour was great fun and Jasmina adapted beautifully to our group dynamics.

This fascinating tour is one of the best ways to get familiar with the town center - Jasmina's talks and references are not only super fun, but they also offer you a unique perspective on the city. I recommend it for tourists because it's a fun way to see the city, but also to locals, who can see their own town from the perspective of women's history! All in all, a wonderful experience :)
