This building is not to be missed while visiting Ljubljana. The bright colors are really eye catching and is quite a contrast to the other buildings there.

Beautiful architecture
Sep 2019 • Couples
Ljubljana boasts of a number of beautiful Art Deco buildings, the Cooperative Bank is probably the most photographed. Still, it’s near the city centre so it’s worth a stroll there to take a snap.

The Bank isn’t far away from Preseren square. If you walk on Miklosiceva street next to the Franciscan Church, you reach this exquisite building after a short stroll. You also can say, “Nomen est omen”, since the Cooperative Business Bank building was born from the cooperation of two talented artists, Ivan Vurnik, and his wife, Helena. The house was designed by the architect Vurnik, but for the decorations his wife Helena was responsible. Unfortunately, you can admire the edifice only from outside, since visitors aren’t allowed to go inside. Helena made the paintings in the Slovenian national colors, blue, white, and red, and the geometric motives are mixed with elements of Slovenian iconography. With its brightly colored wall, the bank stands out from the surrounding buildings.

"Jewelery of the crown"! The most lively-colored building in Ljubljana
May 2019
Vurnik house or the Cooperative Business Bank building, located in the Miklošičeva ulica street, is one of Ljubljana's most famous buildings. Built in 1921 by a design by the architect Ivan Vurnik, it is considered to be one of the finest examples of Slovenian national style architecture.
The inside of the building boasts a large reception hall with wall paintings and a glass ceiling constructed from small blue squares of glass with an inbuilt decorative strip made from various coloured bottles.
The building's fasade frescoes and interior wall paintings are the work of the architect Vurnik's wife Helena, who had taken part in her husband's research and design of distinctive Slovenian architecture. Her geometric ornaments in red, white and blue, the colour combination of the Slovenian tricolour, are mixed with elements of Slovenian iconography, such as stylized spruce-wooded and cornfield landscapes, vine plants and women in Slovenian national costumes.

Great facade
Jan 2019 • Solo
This building is a surprise and nicely decorated and has a 'art nouveau' style. very ornate and worthy of taking this rather boring street to this building.

Wow!

It would be one of many similar buildings, you can find in Ljubljana - however the painting facade makes a difference!
Something very original and definitely worth to see.

Worth the Short Walk
Oct 2018 • Couples
Normally, viewing a bank building is not on people's list of things to do. But, this building is very distinctive and is well worth the short walk from the Main Square. The colors are very striking and pretty.

Eye catching
Oct 2018 • Family
There are plenty of stunning looking buildings in Ljubljana but the Vurnik House (now a coop bank) is one of its more colourful and decorative. The geometric brightly coloured facade probably hides an equally impressive interior but sadly it does not appear to be open to the public.
