- Jeffdee1,280 contributionsVery informative tourThis is a lovely little place to visit. Our tour guide was very informative and gave us meaningful insights into the house and life and personality of this famous architect. The house is furnished as it was at the time of his death with his original possessions and makes for a fascinating tour. Although there is a permanent exhibition admittance to the house itself is only possible by taking the guided tour. These take place on the hour and are great value for money.Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 10, 2024
- soinic3,008 contributionsA tower, a mule, me and the garden...That was the leitmotiv of the outstanding architect Jože Plečnik who shaped the unique piece of art by urban planning = "Plečnik's Ljubljana" (UNESCO) ! He didn't get a mule, but you can visit his house with a tower! and a beautiful garden! His home and personal property have been preserved in its original form including Plečniks own furnishing and personal items. This is however only to be discovered through guided tours! (included in the recommended LJU card). Easy short walk from center (or bus 9). Not an overcrowded museum, house and garden can really be enjoyed on your own. Don't miss this "hidden gem" 😉Visited July 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten July 3, 2024
- MaryStastny26 contributionsFascinating!Having been admirers of Plečnik architecture for many years, we really welcomed this opportunity to see round his house and find out a bit more about the man and what made him tick. The guide was extremely knowledgeable and engaging and the rooms have been kept just as Jose left them. It was a fascinating visit! It was easy walking distance from the centre.Visited July 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten July 5, 2024
- Kathryn S17 contributionsWorth a visitIn order to see where the architect lived you need to purchase a tour. You are taken on a 45 minute tour of his home and get to know the man. Interesting fellow and his particular lifestyle. I was surprised at how rustic the house was. The sunroom was beautiful as were the gardens. Other exhibitions in the museum. Which was very good. I would recommend this museum as so much of his work is in the area. I went to the cemetery (I think it’s called Vale) that he created…. Wow it’s interesting!!!! Definitely worth a visit.Visited January 2025Traveled soloWritten January 9, 2025

Number one attraction in Ljubljana. This recently renovated house of the famous architect get you an inside in his life and work in the city. The permanent exhibition is 4 euro. But for only 2 euro you can enter the private rooms of the architect with a guide. With Ljubljana card both experiences are included.
My guide was just stunning. Perfect English and very good sense of storytelling. The private house of the architect is decorated as it was the day he died. This is so touching that every detail is still the same. Even you aren’t into architecture. You get to know a very interesting way of creative life

My son is an architect and he suggested we visit. Plecnik is apparently well known for his use of cast and reinforced concrete as well as his designs. The museum provides some background, photos and drawings, history, and models of some of his designs. With a museum ticket, you can also access the gardens where you will find examples of his roof tile designs, and can peer in through the windows of the house, if you don't want to pay the extra for that ticket. We picked up a book in the gift shop, and then wandering back to our hotel near French Square. It is not much of a walk and you will see some nice neighbourhoods while you walk there.

I had a wonderful guide, her name was Lea. I was told the life story of the architect, and the house. It is a somehow unusual house. Very interesting, even if you are not an architecture geek, even more if you are. I would defintely suggest a guided tour, great value for money.

I am art historian and I went for a leisure trip to Ljubljana with my mother. We visited Plečnik house and were delighted and amazed with the specific and unique personality of Jože Plečnik. We had an excellent, very interesting and informative tour. I would for sure suggest to visit this place. You'll get a wider picture about urbanism and architecture of Ljubljana throught Plečnik vision and work.

I knew nothing about Plecnik prior to arriving in Slovenia. The house, and particularly the tour, are very informative and interesting. I really got a lot out of it and am glad I went. The young woman who gave the tour was very good.

My wife and I visited the house. It was not easy to find and would benefit from clearer signage. We took the tour on offer and really enjoyed looking around the house and garden. We were able to store our bags in a locker during the tour. There are toilets on site for visitors.

A visit to this place (actually Plecnik's home and studio) will give you a great insight into the man who shaped so much of Ljubljana. It's well-preserved, looks just like when Plecnik lived there early and mid-20th century. Staff are very helpful--my wife and I had a private tour. Definitely worth the time (10-15 min walk from old town) it takes to get there. Recommend taking the route that Plecnik took every day to and from the University. Head down Vegova Ulica away from Congress Square--street will change names a couple of times before you get there. The tree-lined streets are Plecnik's own design--a much more pleasant walk than the very busy Slovenska Cesta. There's also a very pleasant street of cafes (Eipprova Ulica) nearby to have a coffee or bite to eat before you head back to the center of town.

Slovenian professors on the Faculty of architecture in Ljubljana has always said - we have three greatest architects of all time: Plečnik, Plečnik and Plečnik. :) His work was so advanced, but on the other hand he stem from Greek classics. In this museum you will discovered his work, personal life, religion and also interesting stories from his everyday life. You must check the website, when is it open and make sure that you decide for guide tour! They will tell you about history, Ljubljana, Prague and of course Plečnik's life. During the walk you will see his desk, pencils, even cigarettes.

Plečnik was a genious, a loner, a weirdo, a hermit, a nerd a 100 years before the Word was even invented. His work speaks volumes and stands for itself, Ljubljana, Trieste, Prague, Belgrade and Wienna each have share some of his "blessings."
But this place is where the guy lived and worked. A minimalistic jet intense and very interesting place. Must not miss if you are in Ljubljana and care for more than just great food and good times, though that is also important! If not for other things, then because not all of us were born geniuses: -)

On Monday, 2 September, Plečnik's residence in Trnovo is closing its doors as renovation works, expected to last a year and a half, are scheduled to start.
Reasons for the renovation are the deterioration and inadequacy of mechanical and electrical installations, the issue of the building's construction and a fire safety system currently unsuitable for a museum. Before renovations Museum and Galleries of Ljubljana, manager of the house, acquired new spaces in the corner building at the Karunova ulica Street 4, where it will present the works and life of Jože Plečnik. The investor for the project is the City of Ljubljana and the renovation works will be executed by the ZVKDS Restoration Centre.

If the tour is booked when we arrive, can we buy tickets for later that day? Thank you!
