This is a pedastrian's dream. There are cafes nearby. So much nice to sit and watch passersby. The town is filled with historic sites and tourists! Go here in autumn when the heat has come down a bit and you can sit outside for lunch.
Ljubljana is such a variety of a blend of German, Mediterranean, and Slovenian culture. The old town is a blend of Baroque, Renaissance, and Art Nouveau buildings. Everything is so clean and fresh and the environment is given priority over people and cars.
Beautiful, relaxed, clean & safe. Streets full of cafes bars restaurants and small shops.

Entire area walkable, almost totally flat except for the castle.

Depends on when and how you are travelling. High season parking could be expensive and problematic in the old town if not available at the hotel. I stayed in an apartment 15 minutes walk from the centre which was perfect for my needs. But if you prefer hotel accommodation then I see no reason why not to choose one in the old town. If close to the river the cafes and bars could be noisy late into the night in high season. Hope this helps.
