Preseren Square hosts the statue of the poet of the same name, celebrated in Slovenia. His statue is always looking at a balcony in front of him, where the statue of his inspiring muse is located. The place is great to start your visit to the historic center

The most beautiful square in Ljubljana
Preseren Square is the most beautiful and famous square in the Slovenian capital and represents the typical postcard image of Ljubljana. The square is bordered by the river and the famous triple bridge also stands next to it. To be observed in this square there are several elegant buildings, the pink facade of the Franciscan church, the monument to the romantic poet France Preseren and a scale model of the city centre. Authentic heart of Ljubljana.

    small but beautiful square
All Ljubljana is very beautiful. this square does not disappoint. pity that the walking tour played with a rainy day a little complicated. so I came back the next day with sun and in the afternoon that was more lively. from the square come several interesting circuits to tour the city.

    The center of Ljubljana.
The most central point in beautiful Ljubljana. Although in mid-November, a bright sun and blue sky helped us to enjoy our walk. A lot of people, most Slovens went out to rejoice once the fog rose and gave its place to the rays of the sun. Shops full, wherever you go, a colorful crowd enjoys the center of the capital. The river adds a beautiful note and the castle from above complements the setting.

    Let’s meet here.!
Preseren Square is the center of Ljubljana’s Old Town. It is dedicated to the great Slovenian poet France Prešeren & situated where the Triple Bridge crosses the Ljubljanica river. At the center of the square lies the Prešeren Monument. It faces the statue depicting of Julija Primic, the poet's love. Just nearby the Prešeren Monument lies one of Ljubljana's most well-known buildings, the 17th-century Franciscan Church of the Annunciation. We had a local guide whom shared with us the history & development of the area. It was only 5pm but dark as it is nearing winter solstice. The beautiful city location is busy with locals & tourists and quite a crossroads for transit to and from the Old Town. The square is cobblestone-paved and gave it an elegant and historic feel. Like most famous squares we can see the amazing & bustling place full of life, of the locals and tourists hanging out to socialize and people watch. There are the Xmas carol’s & street musici ans to add to the vibe. From the square you can see it all – the Triple Bridge, the historic buildings, the canals, the pedestrian-only Old Town, and more. The area is surprisingly clean and orderly. It’s a great place to take photos and surrounding buildings make for a wonderful backdrop -Instagram-able!. By night the lights of old town turn the Preseren Square into magic and when it coincides with Xmas, now in early Dec, it is just marvelous.. . Probably this is just what Ljubljana is all about.! Ljubljana is voted one of the underrated European cities in 2024 & Preseren Sq as one of Europe’s 50 most beautiful squares, Definitely worth a visit !

The Square of All Squares in Ljubljana
Think of Ljubljana and you’ll likely think here. Home to the Triple Bridge, great viewpoints of the river, and many nearby shops, restaurants, and works of architecture. Chances are you’ll come to this square, whether intentional or accidental, when exploring this amazing city.

Prešeren Square is truly shining during the Christmas holidays. In the evening the square comes alive, it is a meeting place for young people, but also for tourists who stop to take a photo or have an aperitif. The Franciscan Church on one side and the statue of the Supreme Poet on the other make it even more beautiful and important.

This square is located right near the heart of downtown/old Ljubljana. It is named after France Preseren, who was a Slovenian poet, and there's a statue of him there on the square. The square and statue seem to be somewhat of a meeting point, both for locals and for tourists (our walking tour of the city started there). It's fairly scenic, with the Triple Bridge crossing the Ljublanica Bridge to the old town itself, as well as the big pink Franciscan Church. There isn't necessarily a lot to do here, but it makes for a good meeting point and people watching, as well as some photo opportunities.

A relatively large square, located right in the heart of the old town, at the end of the triple bridge.
It is one of the symbols of the city.
Very close to the square are the markets, the additional bridges, the river promenade, restaurants and cafes.
The place is usually crowded with tourists, but it is still one of the most magical places in the city.
Do not miss.

Ljubljana in December is very beautiful, the thousand lights on trees and monuments make it romantic and create atmosphere. Amazing lights!
It's a shame that the Christmas markets (listed on various Slovenian and non-Slovenian sites) are really disappointing.
Very few markets, some made up of a negligible number of houses (3..4 houses that only sold hot drinks). Numerous markets with local crafts were indicated on the sites, in reality there were very few those selling handicrafts and the markets were around ten houses.
High prices for being in Slovenia, both for objects and food and drinks (hot chocolate or tea in a paper cup to take away at an outdoor stall €5).

It is real center of the city, wherever you go in Ljubljana, you have to visit this square. Especially on Silvestrovo, square is full if people, small shops selling local fast food. Really living place, surrounded by river, 3 bridges, open market, local shops....

Preseren Square (Presernov trg) contends for the role of the center of Ljubljana's old town, with Old Square (Stari trg). The latter, as the seat of the Town Hall, is even more important, and topographically more central (Preseren square borders the "modern" orthogonal city, which begins just behind the Franciscan church).
Yet Preseren square perhaps even more strikes the viewer.
It does so with the reddish bulk of the Franciscan church, which catches the eye even more because it shows itself in an evocative way to those arriving from the south, by walking along the banks of the Ljubljanica river.
It does so with the statue - made of metal made green by the wear and tear of time - of the poet France Preseren, symbol of the nation (the fact, reported in the chronicles, that the statue of the muse of poetry, looming and crowning the poet, was reason of scandal for her naked breasts, she makes us smile today).
Finally, it does so with the unique "triple bridge" (Tromostovje), which in turn is the focal point of the walks along the riverside.
All in all, this square aroused a sensation: it is as if Ljubljana, devoid of the sumptuous palaces of the great capital cities, still wanted to grant itself the maximum of grace, intimacy and coquetry in shaping its best corners.

Preseren Square is the epicenter of old town Ljubljana. The sights and party begin here. The Preseren statue with his muse looking over his shoulder as he sneeks a peak at his 14 year old crush, Juliana, across the square set the stage. The iconic Triple Bridge is adjacent to the square and the Covered market is across the Triple Bridge and around the corner. Restaurants, shops and people watching abound. Welcome to Ljubljana!

The "main" public square of Ljubljana that connects to the Triple Bridge and other attractions, no other place can get more touristy than this place. This is the square to visit to soak in the Ljubljana culture, with a good view of the castle and river, with throngs of tourists and different stalls around.

There are also the occasional music players to add to the atmosphere, but place can be crowded, so do take care of your belongings just to be safe.

On my visit, Preseren Square was somewhere which I walked by frequently, as it is in the center of the old town, right next to the triple bridge. As the weather was warm (over 30 degrees each day) I found the sprinklers which had been installed in the square to act as rain a brilliant relief from the heat.
The history of the buildings/statues around the area are also great, after learning about what survived the 1895 earthquake on one of the walking tours, seeing the 'newer' buildings and learning about the different styles was great.

Main square is fairly small and compact compared to many other European cities.

Has a few historical building around it and a nice statue that you can sit on the steps of and relax.

Probably main feature of the square is the triple bridge that is also located in this square.

Good location for meeting points to explore Ljubljana.
