Mixed impressions
Nov 2019
Interesting smaller museum with a few nice paintings. Also video installations are good. Some exhibits are modern, but maybe a little bit difficult to understand. The cafe is quite artistic.

Art with context
Sep 2019 • Couples
The gallery has some wonderful paintings from the late C19th and C20th. In addition there is good information on the social and political settings in which the works were produced. We found this provision of context really informed, educated and made the visit more valuable.

Cheap but confusing
Aug 2019
On a sunday morning we decided to visit the Moderna Galerija in Lubiana before heading to Tivoli park. The place is beautiful and try to tell de modern history of Slovenia but I found it a bit confusing, lot of stuff without explanation and video without subtitles, probably this place need a redesign. Positive notes the price is really good and the bar downstairs is really beautiful.

Nice visit
Aug 2019 • Family
Enjoyed many of the exhibits at this relatively small museum, in spite of being unfamiliar with a majority of the artists and their work. We found the video installations particularly interesting. Nice cafe downstairs.

Intriguing collection which help to tell the history story of Slovenia
Jun 2019 • Couples
This is a small but fascinating collection in a building on the edge of Tivoli Park. It doesn't make many headlines, but these 20th century paintings gave me a much better understanding of the last 100 years of local history. And its free to visit on the first Sunday of the month.

Stunning
May 2019 • Couples
This museum shows Slovenian visual art from 1900 to the present day. And it includes many stunning examples of creativity. It runs right through from the excellent post Impressionism of Rihard Jakopic and Majet Sternen through the days of Communism to some excellent constructivist work. All kinds of quirky items are included: a Visit Yugoslavia sound film of 1936, some Agit Prop posters from the 1950s, plus a year by year timeline on the development of Slovenian contemporary art ( including some very reactionary statements from Tito in the 1960s). This is all put together with great style and confidence. Most impressive.

Interesting
May 2019 • Solo
There is an impressive amount of sculptures and paintings from early 20th century displayed here. There is also a timeline of events that explains the works on display in the temporary exhibition which was very informative. I personally really enjoyed looking at the various shapes and colours of the artworks in the permanent collection. It is free with the Ljubljana card. There is a coffee shop downstairs (not much of a view) that was playing relaxing music.

A must for the year 2019
May 2019 • Couples
Experts from different countries from Slovenia to N. Macedonia prepared professional exhibition about art in Kingdom of Yugoslavia in the thirties. All visual arts (without architecture) are there, including photography and film. Five large rooms in Moderna galerija explain different parts of history, life and artistic trends. One of the starting points is a book, written by Louis Adamič: The Native's Return.

Sep 2018 • Friends
If you are visiting city and it is rain day, it is best to go for this gallery or some of the museums. There is also one nice coffee shop there.
