Ljubljana's medieval castle offers you, along the Nebotičnik skyscraper, the best panoramic view of the city. Situated near the city centre, ona steep hill, you simply cannot miss it, even if you wanted. The entrance to the castle is free, but for some museums that are situated inside, you have to pay a certain fee. The castle is not much... More

We hiked up and down to the castle, which wasn't too bad but a little steep. There is a funicular (tram) that can be bought as well. We didn't realize that a lot of the castle is open for general viewing without a ticket, but ended up buying a ticket art the entrance anyways. With the ticket, you can see... More

spent a very enjoyable couple of hours exploring the castle. Entry is free if you buy the ljubiana card and includes the funicular ride up the hill. There is a short film on the castles hsitroy and a viewing platform. There is also a couple of museums and a chapel /dungeons to explore, There are great views of downtown ljubiana... More

Ljubljana Castle is unlike any I've been to before. At its heart is the original (here meaning any 'original' of the three rebuilds between the Roman settlement and the 16th century) walls and layout but the construction of an iron skeleton throughout the castle means that what should be inaccessible, slippy old stonework, is actually all very modern with an... - One can go with the car ( free car park) or take the funicular up for the castle. - Though there is no entry fees but for everything else one need to pay the fees, overall ticket is some 9€ for viewing tower, castle museum, church etc - Access to viewing platform is free with awesome views of the... I recommend visiting this castle on a Saturday morning. Visits starts at 10:00am and it's pretty quiet. I recommend the guided tour which includes the funicular ride to the top for 12 euros. Take the first hours from 10-11am to visit the fortifications and the museums inside which are very well put together. At 11:00am there is a guided tour... More

When you start to walk at the old part of Ljubljana, where totally closed to traffic except bicycles, the first thing thatyou will notice is the castle on the hill. Just have a short walk to the funicular or, why not, reach the castle on foot. After taking a look at the large courtyard, enter every corner of the castle... More

The castle is originally medieval but with Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance architectural elements. It was a fortress first, then a prison and finally homes for the poor until the 1960s. Now it is a cultural venue and used for weddings. It is right on the top of Castle Hill overlooking the town, and you can walk up or take the... More

Ljubljana castle is well-maintained and picturesque, though rather modest overall. However, the view from the top and the climb (walk up, rather than use the funicular) are worth it.

The castle is well preserved and has audio guides to purchase for 2€. Well worth the stair climb to the top of the castle for an amazing 360 view of Ljubljana. Do it!
