The castle is on a hill in the centre of the city. From the observation tower at the top you have a magnificent 360 degree view of the city and the ring of mountains that surround it.

I actually found the interior of the main building to be quite lovely and it is what made it worth the time (see pics). Other than that, it is similar to what other people say. Nice but nothing absolutely spectacular. We took the funicular up and back and guided ourselves so the entire cost was just a few dollars, and... More

Perched aloft over the town - this is a must to visit. Use the funicular railway to get there. Visit dungeon and ancient chapel.

If you are looking for a place to view the medieval life then this is not the place for you, if on the other hand you want fantastic views, interesting attractions and to learn about Slovenian history then this place is well worth a look. Oh and enjoy the hike up the hill, hard work but worth the effort, and... More

We decided to make the walk up to the castle after wandering the lovely streets of Ljubljana. It was definitely worth it! The castle is immaculate and the view is incredible. We didn't pay to go in but were more than happy to wander around the grounds.

The old castle has been very well preserved and well run. A warning there are a lot of stairs and some are quite steep and narrow. It is a pity they have overused newer building materials and designs in the renovation, as this detracts from the glory of the old place. Overall a brilliant place and we'll worth the visit.

The best part is the walk and the views, the castle itself is not that impressive. The walk up is not very heavy, and I did it during the summer, so it is nice to do but not to have high hopes about it.

Perched on a steep hill, towering over the pretty city, few castles can match it for location. A comprehensive and imaginative refurbishment in the recent past has created a series of fine spaces within the castle for exhibitions - we particularly liked the puppets and the history displays. If you're reasonably fit, walking up gives a good feel for the... More

Spent a very enjoyable half day here. It was definitely a good idea to arrive early as it was very crowded by the time we left. We did our own tour and particularly enjoyed the Virtual Museum film, the Puppetry exhibition and the spectacular views from the Viewing Tower - well worth climbing all the steps!

We walked up to the castle and went into the areas that were open to the public. The view from the top was amazing with views of the whole city. We were able to walk through the gates without buying tickets and climbed some of the towers and used the toilets. Not sure if we were only able to do... More
