This museum has a fantastic collection of furniture and applied arts. It seems brand new (smells like new). When I went I was the only visitor. They had a special exhibition about porcelain objects. The main downside is the layout and the everything seems to be squeezed; so you see tons of objects piled; some of the rooms were dark. I have two suggestions for the curators: 1) Less is more; sometimes is better to have less objects in exhibition so the level of appreciation increase: 2) A partnership with the other museums in the area. It would be great if you could get a combined ticket with the museums in the area; not with those that are far away.

Nice museum with a lot of history and culture of Slovenia. There is a part of the museum that details the military history of the country also which is quite interesting. A bit out of the way but worth it.

This branch of the National Museum is situated in a fine building. It has an interesting collection of exhibits but rather a strange mix: weapons, furniture, toys, religious items, sporting champions, etc. At the time of visiting, some rooms were undergoing renovation and collections were incomplete. It was also quite cold in the building, despite mild weather outside, which did not encourage a long stay at the museum. Cloakroom facilities were good but there was nowhere in the building to get refreshments.
The 6 euro entrance fee seemed a bit expensive in comparison to other museums which have a lot more to offer.
The museum is not well signposted from the city centre.

This is one of the three Metelkova museums and is another architectural delight inside. Entrance is 6 euros but covered with your Ljubljana card.
I honestly didn't realise it was so full of fine furniture, clocks, chests, ecclesiastical eye candy , porcelain and so on.....
Really worth a visit if you are in this part of the city.

Museum night is perfect for a visit in the National museum. All museums in Ljubljana are open and all generations of people walk around Metelkova square with smile on their faces. Modern ceramic sculptures and dishes is one of the best temporary exhibitions there this season. Some more lights before the entrance can be helpful. No entrance fee for Museum night.

Second of three museums on Metelkova. Best one is Ethnographic museum, worst is Museum f contemporary art. The National museum – one part, main building is near the parliament, has some interesting exhibitions in a house with too many colorful steps. Nice air condition, exhibition about Japan, fine souvenir shop and low entrance fee. Clean toilettes are in the cellar. For fresh drinks you need to go to Ethnographic museum.

National museum is not just one old building in the middle of Ljubljana. Institution has another palace on Metelkova street, near the Slovenian Ethnographic museum. They organize special exhibitions there. Few days ago they opened one about Japan and Japanese samurai. Short, with explanations in Slovene and English. Good for families and for children.
