Whwn hot in Bovec, take a ski lift to Kanin (20 Eur/person) and walk around the top. You have more things to visit, or just bar, highest restaurant, or natural window Prestreljenik, or snow in the mids of hot summer... you can even take your bike with ski lift and go downhill.

In summer the cable cars start at 8 am. We arrived before 9. 20€ per adult with reductions for students and totally worth the price. Take water, walking boots rather than trainers, plenty of sun cream. The gondola fits 4 people and takes about 30 minutes, stopping at 2 stations in between. With the sun on it it is boiling hot and if , like me, heights aren’t your thing, sit with your back to the ascent. At the top there is a restaurant ( reasonably priced for home cooked style food) toilet and a lovely cafe slightly higher up, with deckchairs outside. They do a cracking iced coffee with twix. There are numerous walks, the start for each is not well signed. Off straight ahead ( left a bit) you can walk up the scree slope to the devil’s window. The walk continues if you’re feeling intrepid. We stopped at the part where you needed to use the rope to climb through the snow. Coming down is hard work and not for the faint hearted. We saw one kid slide down and hurt himself and I definitely wouldn’t bring small kids up there. Off right under the chair lifts, you get to an amazing view over the Italian valley, again a scree slope but this time easier to navigate. The views are stunning, the walking strenuous but fun. There is lying snow in July but we are warm enough in short sleeves ( but don’t get caught out by the rain).

High above the sea, but full of sun and great pistes. This is a must-go for al adventurous skiers. Off-piste with full of snow? Got it. On-piste well prepared and great snow? Got it. Off-the-beaten-track and opportunities? Got it. Go here!

We took the cable car up at 8am and were rewarded with beautiful views. There was still a lot of snow on the top so couldn’t do much walking but had fun negotiating the snow and looking down into Italy

Kanin is great mountain where you can enjoy snow sports or just a hike. Can walk all the way to the top or take a ride. On top it opens not only one peak but few. This season (2016/2017) they finally restart a cable car and resort at top, where you can grab a meal. Perfect for skiing or tourskiing. I highly recommend this hidden gem.
