About
Discover the magic of the lake that attracts travellers from near and far. The current unique shape of the year did not emerge coincidentally. A tectonic hole made by the Bohinj glacier through the years, was once at the location of the present lake. Its path was obstructed by a huge rock which was so persistently scraped that the only thing that remained was the present island. The ice melted and the basin was filled with water, thus Lake Bled emerged, which is in some places up to 30 metres deep and quite popular amongst divers. 19 species of fish live in the lake, including carp, sheatfish and lake trout. Ducks and swans as well as diverse plants also swim and thrive on its surface.

A stunning lake with a lovely boat trip to the island
A fabulous lake with beautiful views and stunning walks The boat trip over to the island is an absolute must.. you will be treated to a journey powered by one man’s rowing skills. There was 17 of us on board, so it was pretty impressive! Walk to the top of the island for the church that serves to marry lots of lucky couples. The traditional cake is for sale in the cafe and lots of gifts on sale there too.

    Lake Bled
Lake Bled is beautiful. Stunning scenery no doubt. Definitely worth visiting if you're travelling to Slovenia but I do not recommend doing so in the busy summer months. It's pretty touristic and quite crowded even off season (I visited end of April). Also, the boat trip to the island might seem pretty interesting but it really isn't and it doesn't make the 18 euro charge per person worthwhile. It is much more interesting to walk around the lake and really take in all of its beauty. If you have a car, it is also worth visiting Lake Bohinj which is a few klm away from Lake Bled. Not touristy, more rugged beauty and a restaurant hidden away which serves excellent fish.

    Stunning Lake with Breathtaking Views!
Visited this Lake with a group of friends and we were amazed by the sheer beauty of it. We walked around it first and it was a pleasant walk. We decided to go across the lake to the little Island and see the church. The Pletna boats were quite pricey for a very short ride but that is the only way you could go across and the view towards the island was magical and amazing. You also have to climb a number of steps to get to the church. Stunning views from the top and amazing photo opportunities. You can also visit the church, bell tower and museum for a fee of course! There is a cafe and a gelato stand as well if you need refreshments. Not to be missed!

A superb location - quite busy, lively
I would imagine 20 yrs ago Lake Bled resembled what Lake Bohinj is today - tranquil, cute, pretty etc It still is of course but you share it with hundreds (thousands?) of other people whereas Bohinj will have you quite alone on a good day? There is everything you need at Bled: hotels, campsites, cafes, bars, trains and buses etc There are some gorgeous views with lots of photo opportunities, I would say the part from the busy little town area going clockwise around the lake has LOTS of traffic so cycling not really recommended but on the other side of the lake (anti-clockwise away from the town) there is a nice path/lane. Enjoy!

    Bled and surrounding area
On arrival in Bled we drove to the Vintgar Gorge and did the walk - it was beautiful - need to book before hand. We stayed at the Hotel Park, Bled and our spacious room overlooked the lake and the view was spectacular. We took the cable car to the top of Mt Vogel for a great view of Bled. We also did the tour of Bled Castle which was worth doing. A bit of a steep climb to the entrance but nothing to really worry about.

    Beautiful Lake with the Church!
We were in Bled in the beginning of May and it was almost like having the place to ourselves! It is a cute quaint town and the lake with the church is just breathtaking, even on a cloudy day! We took the Plentna boat to the Church and it was worth it for us - we enjoyed our time there. We also walked up to the fort and toured that as well. It is worth it just for the pictures! We had a great meal at Central Bled House Restaurant and also stopped for the Bled Cream Cake at the Park Cafe. The Bled Cream cake is a must!! We enjoyed our 2 days in Bled and highly recommend visiting this beautiful area.

    Lake Bled, Slovenia
The views in Lake Bled were amazing. The color of the water was beautiful. The water park was a fun place to swim even with the 10 Euro per person cost. Across the street from the lake is a toboggan ride that you can take down the mountain. There are several great restaurants that are close to town and the lake. A really great place to visit.

    A beautiful place to visit
It's a nice place to visit, with places where young and older children can enjoy. It's a nice place for families to go to, whether your walking around the lake or swimming in it. There are Multiple places to eat with local food such as the bled cake and a large water park for kids to enjoy.

    Lake Bled, Slovenia
Lake Bled is so beautiful and picturesque. Snow on the surrounding Alps and the lake is so blue. Took a row boat over to the island in the middle of the lake and walked up to see the monastery at the top. Later did a walk thru the little town but did not have enough time to take the train right around the lake. A must see if going to Slovenia

Enjoyed this place, great for photos and very picturesque, although wasn’t expecting a busy A-road right next to the walkway around the lake which kinda spoiled it for us.
Water was quite muddy too and not many facilities or places open for a rest or refreshment.

Part of the lake was also closed off due to construction so we had to hike through someone’s garden to get back to the car.

Disappointed that the boats cost €12 each to go to the tower.
Bonus point there was free parking near the ski lift but I imagine that was because we were there out of season (February).

We hired a car for the day from Sixt as the bus service was very limited in February and this enables us to drive around and it was only £23 9am-7pm. We personally Preferred lake bohinj, which was more mountainous and very stunning. Water was ice clear.

Lake Bled is as beautiful as all the reviews say. The lake is so clean you can see to the bottom, and there are small fish swimming around. As you might expect, it's become very commercialised. You have to pay 9 Euros per person to go swimming in the lake (for the whole day, or 7 euros after 3pm), so it's worth taking a whole day out to spend there. There are inflatables, etc. and a water slide. We took a bus from Ljubljana to Bled, which cost about 12 euros - beware the traffic near the lake in the summer is awful! It took 2 hours to get there instead of one. You are not supposed to take a picnic to the grounds of the lake. As a result there is hardly any litter, but it means it is quite expensive to eat there. We ate at the first cafe by the lake that you come to if you're walking from the bus station and the food was good, if a little overpriced. If I came again, I would have spent the whole day there to make the most of it. I wouldn't recommend an organised trip where you only get a few hours there.

No motorboots are allowed on the lake and that is what is so great. You can swim or kanoe or whatever everywhere. It is clean and quiet. This year, due to corona everyone told us it was very quiet. Other years it can be really full of tourists. I thought some places were still crowded, but it was still ok. You can walk along the full lake and continuously enjoy the scenery.

The highlights for us were taking a row boat out for around 1 hr 45 mins , with my wife in the stern and me on the oars and Dean Martins greatest hits playing on full volume from the bottom of the boat whilst we meandered around the crystal clear waters of the lake. cost 30 euros value priceless !

our advice, forget about the castle, they should pay you to walk up there, seriously its a bit of a hike and certainly nothing , and i mean nothing could have made me part with a further 26 euros for the dubious opportunity to explore the castle.

Personally i think the Ljubljana castle which is free to explore the majority of places is much much nicer and beautifully and sensitively enhanced by some modern upgrades. I dont know who the architect was but i hope they paid them well because they have done a cracking job of restoration and creating purposeful spaces that are a delight. well done.

Back to lake bled. We tried the bled cake, ho hum, dont bother, ive eaten french vanilla custard slices in Australia and many other places that were significantly better for less.

The Zaka pizza from the camp ground cafe/ restaurant off the walking trail near the boat house is another story altogether. This is a pizza with a smack you in the face take no prisoners fantastic taste. It was worth the bus trip just to eat it. fantastic.

Anyway .... in summary give the castle a miss , give the church a miss, give the bled cake a miss, spend your money just lazing around in a rowboat with the love of your life then take a stroll back to Zaka Restaurant and have the Zaka Pizza - lifes great.

I had high expectations about lake Bled. So we choose it for our end of the year celebration. It is nice and elegant, but overpriced... just like any other sky resort.

End of the year party was very nice (with Beatles music) and some fireworks.

But the town is overbuild with mide rise hotels in the lake front that take away the charm of the older german and swiss style chalets.

So beautiful and picturesque! If you stay at a hotel on the lake definitely get a room with a balcony lake view, you won’t be sorry. We were at Lake Bled in March and were fine with just sweatshirts. Some days the area was foggy, some days clear and some snowy. This was great for completely different looking pictures in the same place. Lovely to walk around town and the lake itself. Go over to the island and also do the castle.

Maybe it’s because I was used to visiting small and quite places in both Croatia and Slovenia, but I found this place to be a bit too touristic. What bothers me is not that it has a lot of people, because that’s not really a problem, what bothers me is that because of its shops, the loud music in the restaurants and the immense hotels (that ruin the landscape, by the way), it just feels like a place designed for visitors, not for its natural and historical beauty.
I don’t know, it just bothered me that everything was expensive and designed to attract tourists.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate because of this. In fact, I spent the New Years Eve here and enjoyed it a lot (they had a Beatles tribute, fireworks on the countdown and a Christmas market with good food).
Since it was a special occasion, I think it was good to celebrate and stuff, but on a daily basis, I’d prefer a natural lake, with local businesses and fair prices.

It feels like a scam. Like they are trying to squeeze people for money.

The lake is gorgeous, but everything has changed since last year.

You cannot swim nor even sit on the grass anywhere around the lake except in very small enclosed spaces that are overflowing with people crammed together like sardines during a global pandemic.

Insane!

It costs €9 per person to enter the area where you can swim. But the swimming area is smaller than a small pool. The area to sit in the grass is packed and there's a line to get in.

Lake Bled feels like a scam now. What a shame.

Weather permitting, this is a must-see place in Slovenia. We visited on a sunny winter day, and the lake was sparkling like a blue jewel against the white cliffs that surround it. Being low season, it was not crowded, but there were only about four restaurants close to the lake that were operational. Rest were closed. The boat ride to the island is also irregular during winter.
Regular bus services from Arriva company (Google search Arriva Ljubljana to get the website address) are available from Ljubljana bus station. The one-way ticket is Euro 5.70, and it takes about 90 mins to reach Bled. There are two bus stops in Bled - the Bled Union stop is closest to the lake. The same bus then continues to Lake Bohinj. Please be aware that the tickets can be purchased only by paying in cash, both at the bus station and from the bus driver. While purchasing your ticket from Ljubljana bus station, you are handed a return bus schedule so that you may plan your return to the city.

I visited Lake Bled on Christmas Eve and absolutely loved it. It’s simply stunning! You can take a little boat out to the island, although due to lack of time, I wasn’t able to do this (I’ll have to come back one day). Instead, I had a lovely walk round the lake. There’s a good footpath to walk around the lake, and plenty of benches along the way for you to sit and admire the view. Being Christmas eve, it was very festive and beautifully decorated, with a little Christmas market/Christmas food and drink stalls in one area along the lake. There are some shops, bars and restaurants/cafes by the lake for you to buy some souvenirs and grab the local custard and cream cake (which I HIGHLY recommended - I got mine from the Devil Cafe Bar by the lake. So yummy!). During a trip to Slovenia, a visit to Lake Bled is s must. Highly recommended.
