About
Discover the magic of the lake that attracts travellers from near and far. The current unique shape of the year did not emerge coincidentally. A tectonic hole made by the Bohinj glacier through the years, was once at the location of the present lake. Its path was obstructed by a huge rock which was so persistently scraped that the only thing that remained was the present island. The ice melted and the basin was filled with water, thus Lake Bled emerged, which is in some places up to 30 metres deep and quite popular amongst divers. 19 species of fish live in the lake, including carp, sheatfish and lake trout. Ducks and swans as well as diverse plants also swim and thrive on its surface.

I would imagine 20 yrs ago Lake Bled resembled what Lake Bohinj is today - tranquil, cute, pretty etc It still is of course but you share it with hundreds (thousands?) of other people whereas Bohinj will have you quite alone on a good day? There is everything you need at Bled: hotels, campsites, cafes, bars, trains and buses etc There are some gorgeous views with lots of photo opportunities, I would say the part from the busy little town area going clockwise around the lake has LOTS of traffic so cycling not really recommended but on the other side of the lake (anti-clockwise away from the town) there is a nice path/lane. Enjoy!

We stayed at Lake Bled for three days - the Church in the middle of the lake, the castle on the cliffs, and the emerald green lake Bled is breathtaking and unforgettable.

Visited this Lake with a group of friends and we were amazed by the sheer beauty of it. We walked around it first and it was a pleasant walk. We decided to go across the lake to the little Island and see the church. The Pletna boats were quite pricey for a very short ride but that is the only way you could go across and the view towards the island was magical and amazing. You also have to climb a number of steps to get to the church. Stunning views from the top and amazing photo opportunities. You can also visit the church, bell tower and museum for a fee of course! There is a cafe and a gelato stand as well if you need refreshments. Not to be missed!

Lake Bled is beautiful. Stunning scenery no doubt. Definitely worth visiting if you're travelling to Slovenia but I do not recommend doing so in the busy summer months. It's pretty touristic and quite crowded even off season (I visited end of April). Also, the boat trip to the island might seem pretty interesting but it really isn't and it doesn't make the 18 euro charge per person worthwhile. It is much more interesting to walk around the lake and really take in all of its beauty. If you have a car, it is also worth visiting Lake Bohinj which is a few klm away from Lake Bled. Not touristy, more rugged beauty and a restaurant hidden away which serves excellent fish.

A fabulous lake with beautiful views and stunning walks
The boat trip over to the island is an absolute must.. you will be treated to a journey powered by one man’s rowing skills. There was 17 of us on board, so it was pretty impressive!

Walk to the top of the island for the church that serves to marry lots of lucky couples.
The traditional cake is for sale in the cafe and lots of gifts on sale there too.

Spent several days near Bled with family. Beautiful lake. Easy to walk around. A trail the whole way. A few shops and restaurants near lake. Be sure to visit the castle and island. Dog friendly. Delicious bled cream cake

Breathtaking views, small town feel. Worth the half day trip to do some unique things. The museums on the island and bled castle are nothing to write home about. But the traditional pletna boat ride and seeing the only island in Slovenia is a must. The views from the castle and importance of the printing press there make that trip worth it and trying some creme cake and soaking in the lake in the mountains will be a great lasting memory for me for years to come. If you have more than one day in Ljubljana make the trip to bled.

We took a boat to the island - peaceful way to approach it but 18 euros each for the trip and then you get 45 mins on the island but it is another 12 euros to go into the church and bell tower and if you want to go to the loo but not visit the church it is 2 euros!
