My husband and I drove through these beautiful mountains in May. This is not an easy drive and takes about 2 hours, but you need to stop and just enjoy the views. There are only a view side places you can get a drink or a small snack until you get to the town of Bovic where we had lunch. We had planned to spend the night and hike, but heavy rain set in so we drove back to Lake Bled.
We waited until a view days later and drove it again in the sun, magnificent. We found a great restaurant just before the turn up to the park on the leftside og the road called Gostilna Jozica Soba Pizzeria where we had a great dinner and they had rooms for 50 euros that were beautiful with a tremendous view of the Julien Alps! Do not miss either of these places.

We have just arrived home after completing several trips with thompson, with the alps being one of them. And can truly say what an educational experience this was. Not only wonderful scenery but the history behind it made it a great experience

We got to explore some areas of these most picturesque Alps when we took a day tour. A range of mountains stretching from Italy to Slovenia. Triglav being the highest and charming peak of this country is a must visit. Julian Alps are included in Triglav National park. There are so many road passes here and being a sportive country Alps and the passes are well utilised for sports as cycling, ski and other activities. Vrsic pass is the highest mountain pass road which we got to know from our guide.
An experience!!!

We hiked the Julian Alps using bookatrekking to arrange our accommodation.
Whilst the hiking, scenery and people of Slovenia are exceptional our experience with bookatrekking was very disappointing.
The mountain huts are very basic. All but one of them had no shower facilities and only very basic toilets. Sleeping arrangements were very basic and crowded and we were not allowed to access our shared room till late afternoon. Drinking water needed to be purchased at 6EU for a litre.
None of this was communicated to us beforehand by Bookatrekking.
We paid for a night in a hotel at the start and finish of our hike but my adult daughter and I were allocated to a shared room with a shared bed. Other members of our group were given their own room despite the fact that we all paid the same amount. Bookatrekking has taken no responsibility for this inequity.
Highly recommend Slovenia
Don’t recommend Bookatrekking

Stayed for over two weeks in Ratece, near Kransjka Gora. The Julian Alps are stunning. The walks in Triglav are great. The Vrsic pass road is a lovely one to drive, if you don't mind hairpins etc. Tourist info offices give/sell lots of info regarding walks and cycles. The rivers are clear and beautiful.

My wife and I stayed at Lake Bled and went on a tri[p to the Julian Alps organised by Balkan Holidays. It was a full day trip with plenty of opportunities to take photographs of the stunning scenery rather than attempt to take photographs out of the coach windows! We stopped at a village for lunch and had plenty of time for an unhurried lunch as well as a stop off at Kranskja Gora on the way back for a comfort break. The tour guide was very informative and the journey through these Alps taking us through part of Italy (no passport required) was stunning. We spotted Roe deer and Buzzards on the journey which just added to the overall trip. I would recommend this trip to anyone and on the day we went in Sept 2012 the temperature was 32oC.
Incidentally you do not need walking boots for this trip.

We were only on a day drive through the Alps and heading over the Vrsic Pass from Kobarid to Kranska Gora but the scenery for the day was absolutely magical. Climbing up the mountain around the tight hairpin bends and then finding snow on the branches of the fir trees we got to the Pass and it was gorgeous. We could not have got a better day weather wise. Spent some time at the top and then down the other side there were plenty of people trekking through trees and trails along the way showing there is plenty of ways to enjoy the area

I drove from Lake Bled through the Julian Alps using a suggested tour itinerary that I found in my Rick Steves' Eastern Europe 2015 book. The scenery here is simply stunning!! You can do a round trip from Ljubljana, through the Alps, and back in a day. However, give yourself more time because the scenery is just so breathtaking!! In fact, I would recommend that you find a nice lodge and stay in the Julian Alps for a few days. The mountains here are gorgeous, majestic, and simply stunning!!

I'm a lover of mountains of all kinds and especially the Alps. I've now been to all 8 countries of the Alps and Slovenia's are my favorites. The stone is so stunning, the green, so vivid, and the water of the Soca river is unbelievable...not to mention the wildflowers. I can't wait to go back and explore deeper
