Its not what some would call a tourist attraction. But it has its beauty. Specially to me, as I was born there. It is Warsaw stuck in time, like in museum. Nothing has changed. That's how it looked after the war, and this is how it looks now. Very cheap compare to the Centrum. You can get good breakfast for under $4.00. People are still very nice. Good dinner under $7.00. And yes, it is safe. Day and night. Have walk those streets with my wife well after midnight only one week ago. Strongly recommend for people who like city's from the past.

Zabkowska, Targowa and the surroundings are really worth a while. You can see pieces of old Warsaw, beautiful Praga Cathedral, the ZOO, the Orthodox Church. Near the Cathedral you will find the best Lebanese restaurant in Warsaw - Le Cedre which I totally recommend.
At the corner of Jagiellonska and Klopotowskiego you will find good pubs: Bazar and Centrum Zarządzania Światem. Going down Zabkowska street you need to try something delicious at Caffee Galeria Sztuki or sit for a while in W Oparach Absurdu (if you are a smoker).
Hopefully, at the end of 2014 the second subway line will be open and the nearest stop to all these attractions will at the Wilenska Railway Station/Shopping Mall.
I lived 10 years at Praga side of Warsaw and it had changed a lot. So don't be scared and take a walk. It is best to take a tram from the center (13, 26, 20) or a bus (160, 190) and get off near the Zoo and the Cathedral. Enjoy!

After being told how amazing hip and trendy this area was me and my girlfriend came here late march and stayed over looking the vodka factory (which was abandoned !) We headed down zabsowska st and ate in a cafe where the waitress was about as misrable as the weather we found NO underground clubs mysterious art galleries or swanky bars just a couple of pubs on route that were shut durung the day and had a few undesireables hanging around them outside at night we walked around the area at night fearing for getting mugged and spent the majority of the time in old town. The websites for the area provided little to no use and i would only recommend this area if your looking for somewhere different but not in a good way. All i can say if your a local and know where your going im sure its probably ok however the area is being developed and im sure give it 5 - 10 yrs time it will be great

Don't get me wrong, it's not like there's nothing at all on this side, there are nice things, but you're more likely to run into trouble here than in other parts of Warsaw and also some of the streets are the closest thing Warsaw has to slums.

I fell in love with Praga Polnoc. This is like totally different world. Not everybody will enjoy it cause there is a lot of closed businesses and old never renovaited buildings. And some drunk and semi homeless people. And this is a beauty of it. Some of pre-war signs can still be visible. Zabawska Street is a super hype place with many restaurant and bars/pubs. The area where I stayed over was filled with murals which I love. Even the tram going to Praga Polnoc was old- fashioned and totally different from the others around Warszawa. Even this place can be a bit dangerous after dark I would definitelly come back there. It is magical.

We visited this hole during the day. The atmosphere was awkward, dangerous and uncomfortable. I am not the type of person easily scared, but I know a bad area when I see one as I grown up in a very dodgy part of Sydney.
We wanted to visit due to its reputation of being up and coming, arty and cool. We were disappointed.
Praga offers tourists a bit of reality I guess. It offers a sense of honesty that maybe not everything is going well and its not all polished and shiny like the Nowy Swait. I don't care though as I had wasted a very hot day travelling to a dodgy slum in search of gold and returning empty handed.
If you want to see Warsaw do what I did. Go to a bar on Nowy Swait at around 12am, close to the Palm tree roundabout, meet some locals and they will definitely show you the town.

We stayed in the Praga district of Warsaw for 4 days at the Hetman Hotel. Its across the Vistula River.Although people were saying its a dangerous place..etc...I can say we never felt in danger..although we were not out late at night ...actually we quite enjoyed the area..it has a real "neighborhood" feel to it.Yes the buildings are very old and ugly maybe..but its part of the history. The area was never built up or renovated. The people may be poor..or working class..yes you may see a few "undesirables" around but no problems and you get this in all cities I think.People were helpful offering to give us directions a couple times. My father fell in the street one day and three people ran to his rescue and helped him even offering to take him to hospital.
They are digging for the metro lines(from what we saw on signs) so area across from the Mall is under construction.
We enjoyed the Mall..eating places...the Orthodox Church..the "Blue Angel" statues around town..the hidden courtyards and shrines inside them...seeing Mala and Stalowa Streets where the famous film "The Pianist" was filmed (among other locations).the Russian Bazaar..the many second hand clothes shops on Targowa Street browsing just for fun.
Its easy to walk over bridge to Old Town or take the numerous trams.
I think its an area to see if you want to experience another side of Warsaw. Up to you!

Praga district was not destroyed during the II World War, so its one of few places in Warsaw, where you can actually feel the original spirit of the city. There are plenty of old beautiful buildings, parks, zoo, restaurants and the most important: people. When you cross the Vistula River you enter another dimension - time here flies slower than in city centre, people are harsh but they have the true warsaw soul in them. You havent seen Warsaw, until you've spent some time at Praga District :)

Great area, which tend to be quite dangerous 10 years ago, but now it's growing as artistic, unusual and very interesting part of the city with a very reach nightlife.
In the old parts of praga you can look at the buildings, which have not been renovated since the war! The parts of the movie Pianist (about jewish pianist in the times when Germans invaded Warsaw) were filmed there with no additional special decorations...
Also people living there are much different than in the other parts of the city; living their own lifestyle in rather closed environments. It's not adviced to try to enter one of the old gates (where they are spending most of their time) or try join them in the as it might be quite dangerous.
Place definitely worth to visit in Warsaw!

The area with plenty of cafe-bars and restaurants. Each of the places is very unique. The food, drinks and interior design. This district was neglected for a lot of years. You will be finding buildings which are very old and holding still markings on their walls from WWII. In some courtyards you may find shrines which were built during WWII and some of them before. Each of them has it's own history and style.
