- szymon k3 contributionsYou have to seeIt is a well-prepared and visitor-oriented museum in Poland. Very large exhibition area. A number of very diverse exhibitions, both permanent and temporary. I liked Faras and the Ancient Art Gallery the most. A number of interesting exhibits and descriptions. Picture galleries at the top. It's very difficult to watch everything in one day. It takes about 3-4 hours. I suggest splitting it into a few sessions and then having more fun. On Tuesdays, sightseeing without a ticket. There is a small bookstore offer inside the museum, which is a pity because it is worth offering something more.Visited March 2024Traveled soloWritten March 31, 2024

- Robert D5,375 contributionsExcellent museumThe National Museum in Warsaw is free on Tuesdays. It consists of six permanent galleries and one temporary exhibition (which you still have to pay for on Tuesdays). The Gallery of Old Masters features many beautiful works such as European Porcelain Sculptures and the Coronation Mantle of Augustus III Wettin, King of Poland plus the insignia for the King and his Queen. Their coronation took place in 1734. In the Gallery of 19th Century Art, I saw a sculpture of Chopin by Boleslaw Biegas. The terrified faces emerging from the sounds are a symbolic depiction of the moods permeating Chopin's music. The Gallery of Medieval Art had many religious works including figures from the central part of a triptych from a church in Gdansk which show Saint Jacob the Elder, Virgin and Child, and Saint Anne with Virgin and Child. They were made ca. 1510-1515. The Gallery of Ancient Art took me back to ancient civilisations, such as Egypt. You can see the lioness-headed goddess Sakhmet (1390-1352 BCE) with votive stelae in the background (2000-1750 BCE). The Faras Gallery features Nubian Art from an 8th century cathedral that was going to be destroyed when the Aswan High Dam was constructed. Polish conservationists helped save these Nubian artworks. The last permanent exhibition gallery was devoted to Polish design. There is a lot to see and admire here.Visited July 2024Traveled soloWritten August 19, 2024
- ChiaraCorno Giovine, Italy111 contributionsInteresting and well-structured museum in WarsawThe National Museum in Warsaw is rich in works from different eras. It is structured on three floors, from bottom to top in ascending order of antiquity. All sections of the museum are well cared for and well organized, the proposal is very rich and in fact the visit takes up to 3/4 hours.Visited August 2024Traveled with friendsWritten August 30, 2024
- Alix FLondon, United Kingdom28 contributionsWill be returning! One of the best museums I've been to! The ancient civilisations exhibits were fantastic. I particularly loved the section on hieroglyphs and the evolution of the language to coptic and later languages. There's an exhibition for everyone! With artworks on the first floor. The gift shop is also great for souvenirs!Visited August 2024Traveled soloWritten September 5, 2024
- uncvcutravellerRiverside, Iowa553 contributionsFree trip to MuseumThis was a good visit. Would recommend two to three hours max. It is free one day a week. Can't complain about that. The fountains could have looked a little nicer even if it is October. Would recommend if time permits.Visited October 2024Traveled soloWritten January 15, 2025

I was very impressed by the National Museum in Warsaw. Unfortunately, I did not budget enough time for my visit to this fine museum, which boats loads of excellent artwork by Polish artists and more. I recommend at least three hours here to make sure you have enough time to take it all in at comfortable pace. The museum is unlikely to feature any artists you may have heard of before, but it is worth the time, especially given the very affordable entry price, and the excellent quality and quantity of its collection. I enjoyed it so much that I plan to return during my next visit to Warsaw.

As a person more used to the football and the beer, I decided why not get some real "culture" for a change, so on an early Sunday morning i headed over to the National Museum of Warsaw, which wasn't too far away from where I am staying.
The entrance fee was a nominal One Zloty (20 cents) and in I was.
I had no plan of what I wanted to see, so went in with no ideas or specifics, just have a walk around and look at some great art work.
I have to say it is a very impressive museum, and I did learn a lot about Polish history from it..... some wonderful paintings and I was happy to while away a few hours here.
Three floors though, and if, you are like me, and want to see as much as you can, going down every nook and cranny, then you will spend about 2 or 3 hours here easily. Suffice to say, I was well knackered after it all.
It was great to see a lot of young kids around, getting a good education and learning. There is also a play and learning room for young kids, which if you have young kids, I do, is a great idea. Well done to the museum on that one.
All in all, it was a very enjoyable few hours.

Lots of interesting pieces through history and across cultures. Worth spending up to 3 hours if you can take it all in. better to go around opening on the weekends as it starts to fill up by noon which is less enjoyable. Also check out the free exhibition of military tanks and equipment next door

I so didn’t like the war tools-toys of planes, guns, tanks, cannons, helicopters, etc. outside. Glad I saw that horrible stuff first before I went inside to a very good museum. Please note, Modern and Contemporary art is not to be found here

I came inside and it was a vast place, looked quite promising. The bottom floor is full of Christian artwork in all forms and as you go up the staircase, their are a lot of places to choose from. I walked around and indeed a lot of the paintings were impressive, however I wanted to see Stańczyk ( sad jester) painting. I walked around and there were absolutely no signs to help me find it apart from a little one on the ‘19th century paintings’. I looked everywhere, even re passing twice or three times. I decide to ask a member of staff, I showed her the picture and tried speaking English as the common, although not native, of the languages I can speak. She makes some hand gestures while still speaking in polish and when I just kind of nod and start walking away, to follow the flimsy instructions, her and her friend ( another staff member) start laughing as she repeated the instructions a few times and seemed to be having fun with it at my expense. Overall, it’s a poorly laid out place with SOME good art work.

Simply one of the greatest museums for anyone interested in Polish art or art more generally. Here you can find the greatest works of Matejko, Mehoffer, Wyspianski, among many others. The highlight is Matejko's mural of the Battle of Grunwald, as well as his Stańczyk. Best to go with someone who has some background in Polish history and culture.

We only viewed the sculpture garden outside the main building (free) as the interior was closed for the day when we arrived. The sculptures are interesting (old and modern) and the surroundings very pleasant. The collections inside are reported to be extensive: the largest museum in Warsaw.

Worth seeing mostly for its wonderful collection of Polish 19th century art. Other sections include medieval sacral art (with some impressive wooden altars from Polish churches), Renaissance art / Old Masters (a rather humble selection of European paintings and an interesting collection of pottery), Polish school of design (a small, but fascinating exhibition on Polish 20th century design) and 20th century art (sadly, it was closed when I visited). Newly reopened section on the ancient times had a huge line and was rather disappointing (a very basic selection of Egyptian, Greek and Roman art - plus mummies, of course). Nevertheless, the museum is certainly worth the entrance fee. If you want to see everything, be prepared to spend around 4 hours here.

This museum is rather big (at least from my perspective), it is easy to loose at least a few hours here as there are so many different art pieces. For a Lithuanian person you have to see the live painting Battle of Grunwald (Matejko) (Žalgirio mūšis) that is easily recognizable for all of us. For a bonus you can find 19th century painting of Vilnius Town Hall (Rotušė).
P. S. we saw online that museum opens at 10 AM, but we could get in only at 11 AM. I am not sure if it was our mistake or some special day

Plan on spending at least one half of a day or more here. So much to see. from old to modern and MORE! We especially enjoyed the art exhibition on Anna Bilinska, an under appreciated Polish artist of the late 1800s.

POLIN Museum in Warsaw ?
Written July 1, 2018
I'd suggest that you look at the websites as dates vary from time to time. The Uprising museum is free on Sundays but I would advise you go on another day and pay - you will enjoy it much more: the museum is really crowded on a Sunday. Museums in Poland are very or reasonably cheap for a Western visitor.

Hello ChrisG29,
Thanks for your question. Photography is allowed throughout the permanent galleries, but only WITHOUT the use of flash. Sometimes there are certain limitations in our temporary exhibitions, depending on the works on show, but generally it is permitted.
All the best, we hope you enjoy your visit!

Hello,
We have checked our collection, but we believe the artwork is not owned by us.
Our research suggests it is held in the collection of Museum Okręgowe in Bydgoszcz.
Good luck in your hunt.
Kind Regards,
