Janusz Korczak (1878–1942) was a Polish Jewish pedagogue and children's author. He worked many years as a principal of an orphanage in Warsaw.

He refused sanctuary repeatedly and stayed with his orphans until the entire population of his institution was sent from the Ghetto to the Treblinka extermination camp in 1942.

This memorial at Swietokrzyski Park was unveiled in 2006, on June 1, on Children's Day. The monument was erected at the site of this Jewish orphanage.
