Totally loved the experience of being at the University of Warsaw Library Gardens! Though library was closed for holidays but I'll plan a visit there when it gets greener and more colorful.

Impressive from the outside, exquisite from the inside, and has fantastic views from the top. I had been planning on visiting this extraordinary library in Poland, which is one of its kind located right in the heart of the national capital. Speaking of the library:

1. The library boasts of a roof garden split into two parts: the upper garden (open to the public from April to October) and the lower garden (open year-round)

2. The garden was opened on the University of Warsaw Library roof in 2002, spanning over the 1-hectare surface area.

3. It's one of the largest roof gardens in Europe accessible through an entry garden. The roof garden is divided into two parts. A cascading stream connects both parts (upper & lower parts).

4. The lower part includes a fish pond, with a bunch of ducks paddling around. Warsaw has a nice population of Mandarin ducks which are an exotic duck breed, so colourful. You might come across one of them stroking the lake waters.

5. There's a series of granite sculptures by Ryszard Stryjecki on cosmological themes.

Make sure that you check the hours correctly before you go there. To enter the library premises indoors, you must have a library card or a student's ID from the University of Warsaw.

The library inside the building can only be accessed by pass holders (probably students). The gardens on the surrounding area of the library can be accessed by anyone. This is a pedestrian area, with easy access from the road. It is a beautiful green garden. The building of the library itself has a unique green aluminum color, matching the colors of the surrounding gardens.

Very nice park, with plenty of chairs and shade. Plus the added bonus of the rooftop part that makes it even more special even though the views are not spectacular.

There are also two coffee shops inside where you can get a drink or snack.

The University Library is a great looking copper clad building close to the Copernicus Science Centre between the Vistula and the Royal Palace. There is a pleasant garden which can be accessed freely to the north-side of the Library. In the winter, it is a mixture of grasses, shrubs and trees. The garden stretches upwards to the actual roof of the building, but this is closed during the winter. There should be a great view from up there.

I was nicely surprised by the place. It is a big, nicely designed library, a lot of nice cafes inside and the most inspiring place - the roof! Great viewpoint from an amazing roof garden. Great place for a walk, a picnic and relax. That is a true example of sustainable use of space given.

Modern, finest architecture, sustainability, unexpected and cool are just a few words to describe this beautiful place.

Defiantly the biggest surprise of the holiday trip to Warsaw.

Works perfectly to visit with both friends and family and also fits for couples.

Visit on a sunny day!

The Warsaw University Library is a terrific twenty first century architectural project. On its roof and all around the roof, a lot of greenery has been planted that forms a permanent green canopy over the library, conferring to it a unique appearance. In fact, the library roof-cum-surrounding-area is a landscaped botanical garden! The whole effect is one of exquisite beauty as it allows one to take refuge in nature and so relax and feel inner peace and serenity. Besides, the view from the botanical garden is magnificent, as the visitor has a panoramic view of Warsaw.

There is no entrance fee and one can visit the library garden on any day. All that one needs is good weather and plenty of time on hand.

The Warsaw University Library garden is one of the not-to-be-missed scenes in Warsaw.

We stumbled upon it by chance having seen visiting the Copernicus Science Center nearby.

It was not immediately find the entrance but once inside (free admission) opened an almost magical world!

An amazing enchanted garden on the roof of the university library, a haven of peace, serenity and harmonious colors of nature within walking distance from the city center!

Well worth a walk and also a stop on the benches! It was truly a find! @gargio76

On vacation from the university I did not expect the University of Warsaw Library to be a highlight of my visit to Poland, but a friend who lives in the city insisted we make a stop during our three-day visit. Now I'm passing on that favor. The library is decorated with seven giant (and artificially antiqued) slabs representing humanity's scholarship and knowledge. They are oddly beautiful although they really are only snippets of chemical and mathematical formulas, passages in Polish, Russian, Greek (no English) and a piece of music. It's fun to pose in front of this slabs and to challenge friends to identify the content of the slabs. The Library is massive and modern, well worth visit, but as other reviewers here have noted, the crowning glory is the meandering rooftop garden, a wonderful concoction of glass, metal, lattices and vines. You'll wander through improbable glades and under arbors all framed by scenes of the city and the Vistula. The originality and beauty of the place will bowl you over. The library is close to other Old Town sites you'll want to visit -- do it. Bring a camera.

I was so bummed because I walked all the way to this library, so excited for the botanical gardens only to be denied entry because I didn't have a student ID! I am not sure how other reviewers visited the roof top garden because I was not allowed entrance. I tried asking the security guard and he spoke little english but made it clear I was not allowed to enter the main area if I didn't have a student ID. I even asked other individuals lounging around in the lobby/restaurant area if they had any advice or insight on if I could go to the roof without an ID and no one seemed to know.
