There is an abundance of statues in Warsaw, but this one makes visitors scratch their heads in questioning "why?". The answer lies in the fact that de Gaulle was a member of the French Military Mission to Poland that worked to strengthen the military of the newly independent Poland after World War I. de Gaulle served as part of the mission during 1919 to 1921. The advisory mission is widely credited with having a significant impact in strengthening Polish military capability and organization. The statue has a pretty prominent siting on a major intersection in the city.

Beautiful monument in honor of the general who was instrumental in building the army of Poland after the 1st century. World War II was involved.
Exposed location in the heart of the city and a beautiful photo motif.

Stumbled upon this statue while exploring wider city centre. Fitting tribute to a man who was the leader of French army in exile, something that Poles know a lot about. After all, they had a similar faith during WWII.

Although it might seem a little odd to see a giant statue of Charles De Gaulle the famous French general and statesman and leader of the Free French during WW2 in the city of Warsaw after a little bit of studying you soon find out the significance of this very imposing statue.
Charles De Gaulle was a resident of Warsaw in the 1920's and was a participant in one of the most important battles to take place in Europe.
I have to admit I was in total ignorance about the Battle Of Warsaw which took place in 1920 when Bolshovic troops threatened to overun Europe but were stopped 23 kilometres from the gates of Warsaw were the Red Army was smashed by a Polish army led by Marshal Josef Pilsudsky ,Charles De Gaulle fought with distinction in this most important of battles.
The statue looks superb and shows the great man striding purposely .
The statue looks superb and makes for some great photographic opportunities.
Very easy to locate on Rondo Charles De Gaulle not to far from the wonderful Warsaw Palm Tree.
A great statue to a great man and well worth checking out..

If you visit the “The Palm Tree” in Warsaw, you will observe a statue of Charles de Gaulle just a few feet from this artificial tree. This monument at the Charles de Gaulle roundabout is located on Aleje Jerozolimskije and pay homage to the French General and President of France. This 7.45-meter-high bronze statue shows the General walking in his general’s uniform. This statue is duplicate of the one located at Clemenceau Place in Paris, France. The question is why is Poland honoring this individual? Records reveal that in the 1920s Charles Andre Joseph Marie de Gaulle was assigned to Poland with the French Mission at the conclusion of World War I. He was an instructor to the Polish Infantry. As an instructor, he distinguished himself at the River Zbruck Battle and was awarded the Virtuit Militari Medal for exception service to Poland. This medal is Poland is highest military decoration. He continued to live in Warsaw, for two years near the location of his statue. The Polish military promoted him to the rank of Commandant (Lieutenant Colonel) in the Polish Army and offered him a career with the Polish military. He declined and returned to France. For his distinguished service to Poland, the statue was created to pay homage to him. This statue is a remarkable likeness of this French General. If you are in the area, suggest a quick visit to the monument.

Surprisingly, a statue of Charles De Gaulle is facing the busy Charles de Gaulle's roundabout. The statue is identical to the one near Champs-Elysees. The Warsaw monument is a gift from the French government. It was unveiled in 2005 next to the Palm Tree artwork.
After the First World War, France sent 400 officer-instructors to Poland. Among the French officers was the future President of France, Charles de Gaulle. He had an important role in the Battle of Warsaw in 1920. The Bolsheviks were defeated and Europe was saved.

While it is a bit lost in the busy environment at the intersection of Aleje Jerozolimskie and Nowy Świat, it is not a bad statue. De Gaulle walks in it, and so, the statue seems alive and dynamic.

Was not aware the De Gaulle was helpful to the Polish people. All of a sudden you walk by and there he is near the area near the fake palm tree.

A fitting statue to a great man. And quite appropriately it can be found on Rondo de Gaulle’a. He was a resident of Warsaw in the 1920s and considered a hero for the role he played in The Battle of Warsaw in 1920.
