The post-Franciscan Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary was erected in the second half of the 14th century. It is one of the most outstanding artistic and architectural achievements of sacral architecture in Poland. In the 14th century it was the highest hall church in Central Europe with the naves and aisles 26.8 metre high.

St. Mary's Church, also know as the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, was erected in the second half of the 14th century by Franciscan friars. This beautiful church began as a Catholic house of worship, then it was taken over by the Lutherans, and later the Catholics assumed control of it again. Torun has a number of beautiful churches, and this is one of them. Persons interested in religious history, architecture, and photography will certainly want to visit this church.

Very understated but nether the less, impressive Church. Massive brick construction dating from the 1500s, rather dull but which still has a likeability factor.
Torun seems to have 3 very similar churches and thus I believe many of the reviews are mixed up. This one seems to be the forgotten, poor cousin but it has a rich history. Unfortunately there is very little information in English about the church but I gather a priest was murdered and the Pope (Polish one) visited.
It is impressive in scale and height, particularly for a brick building. The stained glass window are huge.
Well worth a visit.

Unlike many Polish churches, this one has kept some of its original frescoes and there are many worn-out tombstones in the pavement and funerary plaques and monuments.

In my opinion the most interesting church in Torun. No typical towers, tall vertical walls, raw and dark Gothic interior. It is really worth, plus free entry.

Moim zdaniem najciekawszy kościół w Toruniu. Brak typowej wieżyczki, wysokie pionowe ściany, surowe i mroczne gotyckie wnętrze. Naprawdę warto, a dodatkowo bezpłatny wstęp.

A Beautiful church which is right around the corner from Old Town. We didn't actually attend mass, but toured the church with a guide as part of a walking tour.

This is another fine Gothic church in Torun. Yes there are many but that doesn't diminish each one so stop here, admire the architecture, frescoes, sculptures and white interior.

Fantastically high ceiling and tall narrow stained glass windows. Quite stunning to experience. My wife's father was originally married there before WW2, so rather a poignent visit.

The church was on the same street just opposite to our Hotel - the Solaris. Having read about it I had decided to visit and I am pleased I did. The frescos are lovely. It is a lived in and lively place. A small group were rehearing for a wedding. It had a good atmosphere and a sense to connect to all the people for whom this has been a significant place.
