Up and out and about on a beautiful Spring morning my twin brother Stephen and I were heading to a cafe on Plac Bernardynski and passed this church and I must say I was totally impressed with it .
Dating from 1738,it's a great example of Baroque architecture ,the facade is beautiful to behold ,the most distinctive feature of this church are the very evocative twin towers ,it's a wonderful looking church building ,very photogenic and most definitely well worth checking out if you're in the area and easy to locate along Garbary .

Pleasant Baroque church with two huge spires, richly decorated inside. About a 10-minute walk from the historical centre.

They are doing renovations on this Church but the interior is still visible and absolutely stunning. The amount of work and design that went into building these churches in an era when most of the work was completed by manual labor just takes your breath away. And realizing that most of the construction is of brick with no rebar built in is amazing considering the height of these spires. The altar area is beautiful but also take some time to look at the ceilings and the side altars. Definitely a recommend.

Francis of Assissi was a humble man who shared whatever he had with the poor. This Baroque church perhaps stands in contrast to the modest lifestyle of Francis. Nevertheless beautiful Baroque sculpture work can be admired here.

The church has a long history, but the presentday structure resembles most the one from 1738. During Protestant Prussian rule the building was used as a lodginghouse for students. After 1945 the Fransciscans returned and restored it to its former glory.

After entering the church you have to climb some steps to a higher level. This is not to keep believers away or humble, but meant as a protection against floods.

So enter by a small door. Not as imposing internally as other edifices but still grandish. Cannot see all the external carvings due to the erected scaffolding.
