For nearly forty years after its unveiling in 1904, Deluge fountain depicting the Genesis flood narrative in the bible was one of the prides of the city.
However in 1943 its bronze sculptures were confiscated and melted down for the German war effort, and it wouldn’t be until 2004 that Bydgoszcz could think about a restoration.
Process took 10 years, and this vital piece of the city’s heritage was officially unveiled in 2014, 110 years after the original.
Fountain is located in the most charming park.

A very beautiful fountain. Unfortunately it wasn't working when we arrived. It is turned on for warm months. Which did not change my opinion about the quality of the beautiful sculptures that constitute this fountain. It's worth visiting, there's a very nice grove nearby and a nicely restored church.

Located in the King Casimir the Great Park this sculpture recently made a come back after it was destroyed during the Second World War by Nazis. Created at the end of 19th century by Ferdinand Lepcke it is classically magnificent and powerful in appearance. The citizens of Bydgoszcz for a century had a great sentiment for this piece of art even when it was nonexistent. Now is back and there is nothing more pleasant than after walking through the beautiful park to sit down and rest by this fountain. Not to be missed.

The fountain itself is an impressive, though very tragic piece of art. It is not about Noah's rescue, but presents the people and animals that are left to die in the flood.

Prior to WWII, the Fountain Deluge was a local landmark. I have been told several stories of it's meaning, but know one I've talked to knows definitively. I do know that during WWII, the Nazis tore down the statue for the bronze. The original base was left so after the war the people of Bydgoszcz had the statue recast and added a detail. You will have to come and the Fountian Deluge and ask a local what was added.
