It is probably the most visited and photographed place in Bydgoszcz. The ‘tightrope walker’, also known as the ‘man crossing the river’ (Przechodzący przez rzekę) is a sculpture of a naked man holding a pole and two arrows while balancing on a wire. It stretches across the Brda River by the city centre and was created by Jerzy Kędziora. It was unveiled on May 1, 2004, the famous day when Poland joined the European Union and is designed so that its centre of gravity is below the wire, which gives it its balance. Definetely it is one of the city’s iconic points of interest.

Man crossing the river - it's the official name. Sculpture was unveiled on the 1st of May 2004 to commemorate the Polish entry into the European Union. The sculpture is placed on the ropes stretched between the banks of the Brda river - the center of gravity was shifted below the rope. Thanks to this, it maintains a balance.

The Tightrope Walker sculpture is an iconic sight which is suspended over Brda River close to The Granaries near the Old Town. The sculpture was created to recognise the day Poland joined the European Union in 2004 and was designed by Jerzy Kędziora. It is one of the many sights to be seen in Bydgoszcz.

From the beautiful Christmas marked you get to see this sculpture. It is not big but it looks pretty in the winter coldness.

I was expecting a lot more before visiting but it is simply a man on a wire. Not big, not fancy, not doing anything. If you cross by, you can have a look at it but nothing special.

One of the most famous attractions in Bydgoszcz, possible to see from various perspectives (bridge, both river sides), always looking interesting, no matter what weather. Preferably to see during the daylight.

What can I say about a sculpture on a tightrope?? Err-Umm not a lot!! When I saw him he was supporting a natty red & white jumper!
Its suspended across the river but isn't actually attached to the wire and is just balanced on it.

Its a well crafted sculpture over river Brda, right in the heart of city. A good place to have marvelous photos with river, classic buildings and some boat restaurants in background. Also a nice place for casual walk. There is a good café with cozy beach chairs and music, opposite to the structure, in the green belt.

Fantastic sculpture over the river. A sunny day allows you to see the sculpture with a beautiful backdrop down the river.

Quite amazing, how it balances just above the river for so many years. Unveiled on 1 may 2004, on the day Poland joined the EU - and this is to commmorate that fact, like Poles finally crossed the river, or least it seemed.... Best view from Jerzy Sulima-Kamiński bridge - that way you got all heritage buildings on Brda river embankment in the background. This sculpture is close associated with another sculpture in Bydgoszcz - Łuczniczka (te Archer woman) - both got same roman style shoes (Łuczniczka wears them, while Przechodzący got them on his shoulder), and the Walker carries an arrow, possibly released by Łuczniczka. The sculpture is right in the town centre - bridge opened for motorised trafic, so be careful. Car park just to the north of the bridge.
