The city of one very coherent vision. It is true that Zamość is far from the beaten paths of today's Poland. However, it is a gem worth seeing if you have come to Poland for longer and have some time. It is an IDEAL CITY according to the builders' intention, of course in the Renaissance / Baroque idea. It was built for one man, maybe his family. Sometimes they call Zamość the Padua of the North. The vision was taken from the solutions of Italian cities. Generally speaking, it is beautiful, but in fact you will visit everything from cover to cover from morning to dusk in two days. The city is also a so-called compact city, because it was contained in walls also built in the shape of the Renaissance. What we are seeing now is the modernization from the 1830s.

Zamosc is very pretty, historic city with charming old town. We have been out of the season so a lot of places were closed but i think this is place worth going any time during the year because of people and lovely architecture

Very well preserved city. It's interesting observing the 4 most singular houses at the square, belonging in the past to armenian traders and sold later.

I've taken a train from Lublin and now I think that wasn't my best move: it took that train over 2 hours to reach Zamosc. Then 2 hours back.

Zamosc is definitely the most beautiful and best small town in Poland. All you can read anywhere about it is true: beautiful beautiful beautiful + well preserved + wonderful Italian style Renaissance architecture + ideal city etc.

If you enjoy that kind of beauty, it is a must see!

The Renaissance part of the town is not big. Even if you walk everywhere and look at everything in detail - not only on each one of the streets of the town proper, but also in the fortress around, enter into the Renaissance church (a masterpiece!), go to the castle - you won't need more than 4-5 hours. If you are in a hurry, 2h would be enough for the core. But if you love this kind of beauty and want to relax, enjoy, eat, have a bear and see everything, you won't regret dedicating a whole day to Zamosc.

Though I dedicated almost a whole day to Zamosc, I didn't get full satisfaction because of some mistakes I made. Here are my two main regrets: 1. too much time spent on the train; 2. too cold to have a beer on a terrace or just to sit and relax somewhere outside = I picked up the wrong season (guess which one).

Now there is also a thing I regret I didn't do: I went there without a guide. Here I was in one of the most beautiful small towns in Europe which, no doubt, is full of stories, and there was no one to tell me those stories. If you're interested in the things you might see in a place you already know is beautiful, take a guide with you!

I imagine in summertime it must be crowded. Maybe the best time to visit would be May and September.

We reached Zamosc by bus from Lublin in about one hour and a half. A Unesco world heritage site, the town was founded in the 16th century by a polish nobleman, Jan Zamoyski, and under the direction of Italian architect Bernardo Morando as an unique example of a Renaissance town in Central Europe and modeled after the Italian ideal town. It has a nice main square, the Rynek Wielki, surrounded by beautiful renaissance houses and the town hall at its northern end. A nice Cathedral, some churches and a Synagogue due to its once large jewish population.

Very beautiful old town projected as ideal city conception. Reminds of italian old towns. Impressive townhall with interesting stairs, colourful houses. However the old town is very small.

We have not heard much about Zamosc before. It was a wonderful surprise to find such a beatiful old city. For Jews from Israel, we were moved by the old synagogue.

Zamosc is not the easiest place to get to but it is definitely worth the effort. The old town is unbelievably beautiful and so well preserved. Very few tourists which makes it lovely and peaceful. The tourist office has free audio guides in several languages which guide you round the main sights. You just leave a small deposit which is refunded when you return the headsets. It really brought the history to life and gave us a better understanding of this pretty old town.

If one looks at Zamosc old town just as one of many beautiful European (and Polish!) historical places, then one could be disappointed.
It is the fact that it was purpose-built, it is the concept and its realisation that makes the place special - not (only) the square and houses as such. If you realise the idea behind the place, the energy and efforts put behind it, then you will appreciate it more, I believe.

Everything is in walking distance, so you can spend a wonderful afternoon just walking around the old town - if you add one of the adjacent parks, you won't make a mistake either. I personally appreciated the slightly sleepy atmosfere - it may change in time, so take your chance before huge crowds discover the place.
