The Jewish community has a centuries-long history in Wroclaw/Breslau, and the best way to learn about this is in the last remaining house of worship from before the Nazi pogrom of November 1938. The synagogue has been authentically restored to it's original glory, and contains a historical overview of the Jewish community in Breslau/Wroclaw, including the many pogroms and explusions, both prior to the Nazi holocaust, and after under Soviet rule. The the restoration of the synagogue was only completed in the last 15 years speaks volumes.
Spend an hour or two honoring this community by recognizing and learning about it's existence here.

This synagogue was spared being burned down by the Nazis as it was surrounded by buildings. The Jewish community of whom there are few have restored the synagogue and they share the stories of those who worshipped there.

Interesting story regarding the synagogue and the struggle of the Jewish people over the years especially before and after the war. Much of it is documented within the synagogue itself but there is much more you can find online providing further detail. Set in a quiet court yard with a couple of bars in the same square it's relatively unremarkable from the outside. Inside the there are a number of floors that you can look around for the 15ZL entrance fee. Downstairs is the area where they would take The Mikveh. There is also a small synagogue within the synagogue itself but on the day we went the public weren't allowed to see it. Up a floor then shows you main the synagogue itself where you can look down into it, you don't get to go into unfortunately. Given the whole building has been restored its quite interesting to look around on this floor and read some of the history. Up on the top floor is an exhibition but again closed to the public the day we went. Obviously we should have been told all this when we entered but the armed guard/receptionist has limited English. So, slightly disappointed on our visit - would recommend that if you decide to go and would like to see everything it has to offer try and make sure it is fully open to the public.

It's quite informative about the development of modern Jewish society after holocaust. The exhibition isn't big. It only me 45mins. It is good to put in your travel schedule

A wonderful experience.Interesting, informative and the factual records are very moving. This is a special place sharing the unacceptable and despicable behaviours of the past offering growth and hope through the promotion of Yiddish and Jewish culture. A must visit.

Although we have been to Wroclaw before this was our first visit to the White Stork Synagogue. It has recently been opened after a period of repair. It has been rebuilt as it was originally. The information I side was well laid Out, easily readable and fascinating. Well worth visiting. We learnt some facts we had not been previously aware of. Highly recommended.

I lived in Wroclaw for 23 years before finally visiting the synagogue (renovated and reopened since I moved here). I wish I had not waited so long. First, if you've never been in a synagogue, that alone is fascinating. But by all means spend time looking at any exhibits of Jewish life before the war. When I went with a friend, we were almost alone, it was quiet and very easy to spend as much time as we wanted leaving through albums of photos and records of Jewish life in Wroclaw after WWII. Worth visiting for anyone who cares about the vanished culture of pre-War Wroclaw, Poland and Europe, whether or not you are Jewish. A necessary visit for history buffs, though ultimately it is a sobering place to visit, when you realize that a thriving culture and community that once contributed so much to European life is so tragically lost. Above all, be respectful in this place.
