This complex is an interesting and immersive place, You can visit only with group, as it turned out later. At my visit there was was a misunderstood at the cash register... No of the guides speak English, but you can purchase for an audioguide.

at the forefront of Walbrzych's current cultural renaissance; visit the fascinating history of mining in the area, plus 2/3 contemporary art exhibitions, and a decent cafe and shop.

It is a fair old drive to get here from Wroclaw, well over an hour. But I found the whole place very interesting .3 Bus full of industrial fans got too look around this place. They did 3 or 4 groups with a speaking guide, who knew many details about the site.
Many huge rooms are now taken over by displays of old mine stuff ! Other spaces are given over to arty stuff (which I loved) They do have a cafe on site but 3 buses at once did cause ques ..Also is a lift to the cafe part..I think some places are ok for wheel chair users, and some parts could be harder..(the tunnels springs to mind).
Yep we got to go under ground thou some tunnels all the time the guide was telling us of the history and how the first coal got found here..

Like I said the art was mind blowing, but I only found this by opening a few shut doors,it was not part of the tour..There is/was plenty to look at and I think 3 hours plus would be plenty...Our time was very rushed owing to a concert put on in another cafe part..

Very entusiastic people had idea and fulfilled it. Everyone will enjoy visiting it. Underground of ex-coal mine is available. And after this attraction you may enjoy e.g. Aqua Zdroj swimming pools or hotel.

We joined a Polish tour of the mine complex using an English audio guide for explanations. It was a fascinating insight into coal mining and the life of miners. If you want to know the story of Johnny and the mine do the tour!!

It's one of those places, when you get more than you expect - in a good way. For us it was a revisit after more than 20 years, and we got to completely different place, than during the first visit - but this time I don't know if it is in a good way... When we visited in mid 90 of 20th century - it was just after the mine was closed for good, and everything was still like it was during its best times - just like workers gone out for their lunch, and will be back soon - all areas were still full of dust, grease and so on. In 2018 it is brand new and sparkling (in most parts) cultural centre, where you can see milions spent over the years on polishing and cleaning every little surface. So it is clean and clothes friendly now, but spirit of the mine disappeared. Brand new entrance hall, where visitors wait for their tour guide. We got there very late, for last tour of the day. Our guide was one of only few miners, who did work in this mine. And that guy was abslutelly great, he showed us everything and even more, and there were moment we thought we will never get out of there, as there was so much to see, mainly off the usual route. Kids were becoming impatient, as they wanted to go to the undreground part as quickly as poss, but that was the last part of our visit, and believe me - it was late, so late, the gates were closed already, and we were let out only because security knew we are still there... There's also a viewing tower, which gives an opportunity to see the size of the former mine, also to admire the mountain groups on horison. Absolutelly a must, when in Wałbrzych.

There wasn’t as much information in English as in Polish but still very informative and interesting. We joined a Polish tour and used audio phones putting in the clearly displayed numbers along the tour route. The tour guide was very nice and we had plenty of time to look at the displays. We have visited several other coal mines in the UK and the US and this is by far the cleanest and most organized tour we have come across.

Definitely place to visit if you want to learn about life in mine. How things were organised, what safety measures were taken. I am just not sure if you can get guide that speaks any other language than Polish.

Great place. Definitely worth a visit after they have renovated the place. It’s very easy to find and the bus stop is right outside the place. Very friendly staff and many different languages available
