About
The development of the Wałbrzych Palm House property (Palmiarnia), which took place between 1911 and 1914 at the initiative of Prince Hans Heinrich XV. The centrepiece of the facility was the 15-metre Palm House, built of metal and glass, in which date palms were cultivated. The whole property was surrounded by one-storey orangeries. The Palm House’s most remarkable feature, however, was the building material lining its interior: solidified lava from Mt. Etna, which the Prince had brought from Sicily in seven train wagons. The builders smashed chunks of the volcanic tuff into smaller pieces, and made grottos, waterfalls and walls with nooks for plants. The effect of this work may be admired to this day. Over 250 species of plants now grow on the Palm House grounds, representing the flora of various climatic zones and almost every continent. It is worth viewing, among others, the Asian bamboo plants, ficus trees and bushbushes; the Australian eucalyptus, spruce and pine trees.

You can see various cacti, bonsai and orchids here. We expected more plants in the greenhouse. The place seems a bit run down. The area around is a good place for a walk. Free admission when buying a ticket to Książ Castle, so you can go, but I was in larger and more interesting palm houses.

If you want to see beautiful and unique plants, suggested to visit it. I was there on a rainy day, it's a suitable programme, because it's indoor. Although would better in sunshine of course, to enjoy the garden as well.

All the tables are in Polish or Latin, so not easy to orientate, but the view is the most important, not texts.

Palm House in Walbrzych (Palmiarnia Lubiechowska) originally was part of Ksiaz Castle and was founded in 1908-1911 by castle owners. Princes Daisy used to organize there floral exhibitions twice a year (May and September) showing to the audience exotic trees, shrubs, torns, cactuses and flowers.
The main Palm House building is over four stores (15 m) high and the hothouse tunnels lead around it, all filled with green specimens and exhibits from all over the world, some of them quite unique.
Walk around takes over one hour, visit in „Cafe Under Tropics” including.
If you entered the cafe the must is tasting of hot apple-pie with ice-cream and whipped-cream . Unforgettable!

A great place to visit on a cold and rainy day! Not too big but has everything you would expect of a proper conservatory: a collection of palm trees, cacti, fruit trees (mostly oranges and lemons), orchids... there's even a bonsai section! You can buy some houseplants there, too. The conservatory also runs a little cafe, the greens there are really impressing - makes you feel like you're sitting in a garden

If you are coming to Ksiaz castle, then buy a joint ticket and come to the Palmiarnia after your visit. From the castle, walk 700m back until you come to the main road, turn right, and at the big new roundabout you will see the wall of the Palmiarnia on your left. Or you can buy a ticket there.
The Palm House has a history: it was built by the Polish owner of the Castle, he fell in love with a minor English aristocrat called Daisy, married her, and spent millions building her the largest Palm House possible to build. She was delighted, but the marriage didn't last. At its prime, when well-maintained, it must have been absolutely amazing.
Now it has deteriorated, after years of lack of maintenance or investment. The basic structure is there, but some of the glasss is cracked, or leaking, there are broken bricks and tiled plugged with insulation foam, but it is still functioning. The plants are magnificent, they have remained wonderful and there are huge displays of tropical plants such as Datura, Abutilon, Fuchsia, Orchids, Palms, cacti and succulents. There are plants sales at the end, and the plants look great, but the people are not pushy and realise that people cannot buy plants and take them on planes.
Go, and use your imagination.

As a first time visitor i would say nice.. Me and my husband enjoyed much esp. The bonsai and cactus collection love it. Down side is that kinda difficult if with children under 3 place was a bit small, our buggy nearly fitted the walk way..

The restaurant is awesome! Eating there with the sense of nature, plants and trees inside.. Above all yummy ice cream ! 😀

We visted here as it was a gift to princess daisy. It no longer looks like it did when they first made it. There's many plants inside I have never seen plus I love the bonsi room. We where here for under a hour. The kids kept calling it a jungle and where excited all the way round.

We visited the Palm House in Walbrzych, which is a large hot house containing approximately a hundred different species of plants from around the world. It also has a refreshment center, to which we availed ourselves after touring facility. I had a small bowl of hot raspberries with vanilla ice cream. It was quite refreshing. Persons interested in horticulture and gardening would enjoy visiting this place.

If after ticket and cafeteria you have to pay for the toilet, this is what you get, 1 star. Btw the garden is ok but nothing special. The shop is expensive and many plants are sick

It is one of the sites (along with the gardens) you get free-of-charge access when buying an admission to the Książ Castle. An adequate way to extend your visit and a nice bonus for children, but I guess nothing to really write home about for adults who had a chance to visit a similar establishment in the past.
