About
The exhibition presents the output of the artistic community and artists who were temporarily connected with Zakopane at a time when the village was Poland’s leading centre of artistic excellence. All of them drew inspiration from the Tatra mountains and the Tatra Highlander culture. The display is presented in the interiors of Oksza villa, designed by Stanisław Witkiewicz in 1894 in the Zakopane Style, which was restored by the Tatra Museum in 2010. The exhibition „Artists and Art in Zakopane” is based on the Tatra Museum’s own collection, complemented by a few loans. It embraces painting, graphic arts, drawing, sculpture and photography, as well as applied arts and posters. The display includes artworks by Leon Wyczołkowski, Wojciech Weiss, Zofia Stryjenska, Jan Rembowski, Rafał Malczewski, Stanisław Gałek and Jan Gasienica Szostak; psychological portraits by Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz; sculptures by Konstanty Laszczka, Wojciech Brzega, Stanisław Sobczak, Jan Szczepkowski and pupils of the School of Wood Crafts; kilims and lacework, artistic woodcarving and many others exhibits.

We walked there from the beginning of Krupowki and my husband wasn't very happy... till he saw the collection of the art. We like visiting museum wherever we go and we didn't have much time during our stay in Zakopane so we had to choose one and I definitely don't regret. The art of local artists focuses on Tatra Mountains landscapes and it is very inspiring especially on cold winter evening. We actually had museum for ourselves and enjoyed it a lot.

The Villa Oksza houses a gallery of 20th century art, but the building itself is also a work of art. The villa is in the traditional Zakopane Style, which is a must-see aspect of Zakopane culture for anyone visiting here. Make sure to check out the beautiful wood carvings on the doorframes of the villa. The artwork in the museum is a great insight into the artistic history of Zakopane.

Art galery with beautiful exhibition related to Tatra mountains itself or to artists associated with Zakopane. The museum is located in the historic villa in Zakopane's architectural style. I highly reccomend to visit the place to both Poles and foreigners visiting this lovely town.

Set back from the road, ten or so minutes walk from the town's main pedestrian throughfare (Krupówki street), this museum is housed in a historic wooden Zakopane Style villa. Though just a few rooms, there are some really high quality works of art (sculpture, paintings, drawings and photos among others) on permanent display, most of which were created in the early twentieth century when Zakopane was an influential and productive artistic and intellectual centre. One of the rooms on the ground floor houses a collection of distinctive pastel portraits by Stanislaw Ignacy Witkiewicz. Definitely worth going to on a rainy day or if you have an hour or so free. I was the only visitor at the time of my visit (a Saturday morning)

We decided to visit this museum after researching their website. We walked 30 minutes in heavy rain to get there. We expected to view the artefacts clearly shown on their website: model clay head busts, traditional carved wood Zakopane style, a lot of framed oil & watercolour paintings plus traditional carvings on pedestals. ALL ARE MISSING & have NOT been ON DISPLAY FOR THE LAST 12 months.
The website fails to tell you this. The door staff fail to tell you this when charging the 7zl pln.
We were forced to ask but no refund was offered. There is very little to appreciate in this museum, so don’t waste your money.
Choose another museum that is worth your time, effort & entrance fee!!... such as Wladyslaw Hasior Gallery.

MissWorld01,
We are so sorry that your experience at Villa Oksza was not what you were hoping it would be! Unfortunately we have been undergoing multiple renovations this summer, and our website was not updated. We appreciate your review, and we hope that if you are back in Zakopane in the future, you will give Villa Oksza another chance.

Small and expertly selected collection of the best of the art inspired by the Tatra region's stunning beauty and highland culture. From the impressionist style to scuplture, glasswork, wooden icons and alters and more avant garde pieces this is a little gem of a museum and well worth the walk. Set in a beautiful villa built in the Zakopane style.
