A statue of Kościuszko at this place would be better
This grand almost theatrical statue of Polish poet Mickiewicz is perhaps more telling about the period it was made, than about the poet himself. Dating from 1898, a time when Krakow was ruled by the Austro-Habsburg authorities who allowed the region a kind of semi-autonomy, the monument shows Mickiewicz high on a pedestal flanked by allegorical figures symbolizing motherland, science, courage and poetry. During his lifetime (1798 - 1855) Mickiewicz supported armed uprising against the three imperial powers that partitioned Poland, but any reference to militant action against the invaders is absent from the representation. A statue of Mickiewicz was perhaps more acceptable to the Austrian rulers, than for instance one of Kościuszko who called for insurrection from this very square. A square in a city Mickiewicz never visited during his life time.

    Impressive monument
This striking memorial for Adam Mickiewicz, the greatest Polish poet of the Romanticism period was unveiled on 16 June 1898. The best-known monument in Krakow is a favorite meeting point in the Main Market Square and is also a subject of various celebrations. On our visit, there was a demonstration for Ukraine in front of the monument. The monument shows Adam Mickiewicz standing on a pedestal. Sitting at his feet are four allegorical figures symbolizing Homeland, Science, Courage, and Poetry.

Impossible to miss whilst exploring the Old Town.
This is located in the heart of the Old Town central square. Impossible to miss, although most people are likely just to walk past and look. Adam Mickiewicz was a prominent Polish poet. Definitely worth a stop when exploring the area. Wherever you are in the world, there will normally be some sort of central square with a monument dedicated to a famous or well-known individual.

    Meet up place!!
The monument of one of Poland most famous poets, is now a great place to snap a pic or just like a meet up place. It become an Icon because is in the middle of the Main Market Square in Old Town. The monument itself is very nice, and well illuminated at night. If you go to the Main Square you won't miss it.

Simple monument - no more, no less
For polish people Adam Miczkiewicz is a very important person in their history so there are many statues about him and also a lot of streets were named by him. The statues is monumental, in the centre of the city. For a tourist has it no big importance - you see it once and you go further.

    Meeting place
A beautiful monument recognising the national poet of Poland, who never visited the city but is now buried in Wavel Cathedral after his remains were brought from Paris, 35 years after his death. The four statues at the base are allegorical representation of the Motherland, Poetry, Valour and Science. It’s a common meeting place for people in the main square due to its very recognisable structure.

    You can't miss it
A bronze statue of the greatest Polish romantic poet in a city he never visited. It stands directly in front of the side entrance of the Cloth Hall. He lived in the 19th century. At the bottom of the statue are 4 allegorical figures depicting 1) the Motherland (the woman wearing a crown), 2) Poetry (the muse with the lute), 3 )Valour (the young man with the sword and shield) and 4) Science (the old man with the book). Prior to "The Head" this statue used to be the prime meeting point for locals and tourists alike.

    Political magnet.
On our recent visit to Krakow, whilst taking in the view, I ventured upon this statue, well to be fair you cannot miss it, but on this occasion no photo’s, why because it was covered in political slogans from an ongoing political outing, rally spoilt what is a lovely statue.

    Good place to meet
As you can't miss this large monument, it is a good place to arrange to meet. Strangely, Adam Mickiewicz, a famous Polish Romantic poet, never visited Krakow, but lived a lot of his life in exile - hence sometimes claimed by Lithuania as one of 'theirs'. Don't miss the flower sellers nearby - they inherit the job from their mothers and grandmothers.

Adam was a leading Romantic Poet of his time, an academic intellectual, and also managed to involve himself in several revolutionary political causes. Born in Lithuania when it was the other half of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, he was later exiled to Russia, lived and worked in Rome, Paris, and Poland. He was one of the founders of the Polish Legion, primarily to oppose the rule of Czarist Russia in his homeland. In fact, he was in Constantinople trying to recruit Polish expats for the Legion when he died of cholera in 1855. Altho many Poles recognize his name, I never encountered any who knew his history or had read any of his literary work. But the Monument is nice, and a convenient meeting place in the huge Market Square.

Although Adam Mickiewicz is considered Polands premier poet he was in fact born in Lithuania .
A world renowned poet he was also a writer, dramatist, translator and writer who is held in high esteem in Poland.
The ADAM MICKIEWICZ MONUMENT ( POMNIK ADAMA MICKIEWICZA ) is an amazing Monument in honour of this very talented man and has a prime position in the Main Market Square.
The statue is so beautiful and the location could not be better.
The original statue was unveiled in 1898 but was destroyed by the occupieing Nazi's during WW 2 but a copy replaced the original in 1955 that looks superb
Adam Mickiewicz died in 1855 and his body was interned in the Cathedral crypt in Wawel.
The Monument is a fitting tribute to this man and one of the best examples of a bronze statue you will find in Krakow.
A superb Monument and well worth checking out.

We walked around the square a few times on our arrival and noticed this nice statue standing tall in the middle of it. There's not much to it, just the history behind it and the location.
