Today I had my lunch in Utica Kanonicza. The waitress, her nam like the lost Princess Anastasia, chose all the dishes. I am used to do that. She chose wonderfull dishes and surprised my with delicious food. She helped me superbly.

This old street is known for the medieval Okol settlement from 1401.
Later there came houses for priests managing the cathedral. Pope John Paul II lived here.
Many stunning Renaissance and Baroque palaces with decorative portals have survived to this day.

Short and sweet and not to be missed.. An historic street that has somehow escaped the depredations of business and mass tourism... a lovely walk with the castle as your reward at one end.. Along the way there are a couple of nice garden restaurants tucked away... peaceful and a blessed escape from the crowds not far away in the Market Square.. The Hotel Copernicus near Wawel castle is perhaps the finest in Krakow..( President Bush stayed there when he visited) It also has a very fine restaurant serving excellent food.. check out the menu as you walk by.. expensive for Poles but a bargain compared to some European cities... This street is an example of what the city COULD do if it put its foot down to protect the Old City from cheap commercialism.

Great place for a stroll, you feel like you are stepping back in time 700 years. Many great restaurants, cafes, bookstores, a little pub on the street corner, Copernicus Hotel, Pope John Paul residence and museum. It gave me the chills to walk down this street late at night when returning to my hotel - so amazing, nothing like it in the world.

An interesting street that is full of history and great architecture, it is situated in the shadow of Wawal Castle and in the old town of Kracow. Pope John Paul II lived here for a short time before he was the Pope. Definitely worth a visit .

Arguably the most famous house in Krakow is situated at ul.Kanonicza 21; the street named after the Canons (priest superiors) who managed the Cathedral on Wawel Hill during the middle ages.
During the late 1950's/early 60's this house became the home of a certain Karol Wojtyła who at that time was the ancillary Bishop of Krakow Archdiocese, who later became Pope John Paul II.
Although a small quiet street compared to other streets that lead from the Royal Castle in the direction of the Rynek Glowny, Kanonicza has plenty of beautiful buildings with very interesting courtyards and galleries to explore.
Other building of interest are the inscription above the doorway of number 25....the Archdiocesan Museum at number 19 that contains many precious artifacts....Centrum Jana Pawła II at number 18.......The National Museum in Krakow Palace of Bishop Erasmus at number 17....Krakow's most prestigious Hotel,The Hotel Copernicus at number 16...The facade at number 11.
When you reach the small Square of St.Mary Magdalena you can see across to Ulica Grodzka and the Church of St.Peter and St.Paul (great picture taking spot) and there is a statue of Peotr Skarga in the centre of the Square.
***** Tip for Female tourists: Wearing high heels could cause injury walking on the cobble stoned street.

It's indeed so clean and lovely. No eateries could be seen here. We walked most leisurely as we wanted to soak in the peaceful atmosphere with its beautiful buildings. Our tour leader brought us to the building where Blessed Pope John Paul II lived. A huge picture of his hang on its wall. It's truly a most impressive street to visit.

If you can somehow contrive to walk down this street around 5 am, and to find it completely deserted, it'll give you a taste of history. But even at its worst, it's a pretty, picturesque and relatively quiet street.

Ciao, Renato.

Why are there hats on some of the emblems above some of the street doors ?
