The Basilica is a historic and remarkable building with beautiful decorations. It's not a big church, but lots of Polish history there. It became more of a tourist sight after Pope John Paul II became pope and even more so after he became a saint.

St. Francis` Basilica is the most colofour church in Cracow. If you like Art Nouveau style you have to see it. It is the real masterpiece. Floral and geometric patterns look very impressive. There are stained glass windows among them the most famous is "God the Father in the Act of Creation". It is situatedin the heart of the old town. Must see in Cracow.

Found this church to be a very nice church and was quite and not very crowded like other churches. Very beautiful art work and stained glass. Great place to sit and take time with our Lord. I would say 30 minutes to visit not counting time for a prayer. Free entry but do take donations.

Unfortunately, it was very dark inside the church and the alter was under construction when we visited. Since it was so dark inside, it was difficult to admire the stained glass windows and the floral motif murals. What we did see was beautiful.

This is my favourite church in Kraków. It’s totally different from all other churches there and even if you’re not too keen on churches you shouldn’t miss this one. If you’re, however, an architecture and painting enthusiast, it’s a must for you.
It not very easy to find St Francis church and you will probably not get there by chance, especially that it doesn’t look that extraordinary from the outside. It’s located at the Franciszkańska Street, just opposite the Palace of Bishops. What’s so special about this church is its extraordinary frescoes, which are a part of the famous Polish modernist art from the beginnings of the 20th century. The frescoes are amazing and I bet you can’t see something like that elsewhere in Europe, it’s totally unique. The frescoes represent mainly floral or geometric ornaments, they’re astonishingly colourful and stunning.
There are no tickets, no fees, and no souvenirs. Not only is this place a piece of great modernist art, but also an active and fully operating church with all that comes along. Thanks to that it’s very true, and atmosphere of this place is really sincere. Hence, you need to remember services take place a few times a day and sightseeing during this time is not proper. It’s good, however, to sneak into the church at the end of a mass, because the interior will be beautifully lit then and all the frescoes will look even greater.
Unfortunately I couldn’t take any pictures that evening, but you can see some photos on their website.

There is so much to see and enjoy in Krakow that I keep coming back. It was my sixth time now. And only now I visited the Franciscan Church. I found a gem.

The church was built out of bricks in the 13th century. Brick Gothic is the name for this style. I know Brick Gothic from Northern Germany - my mum (born in Berlin) has taught me about it. And now I understand, Brick Gothic is also present in Poland. Another proof of the fact, how much Poland belongs to Europe. As it is a Franciscan Church, the decoration is plain and harmonious (not too much glitter). Unfortunately a fire has damaged the church in the 19th century. Krakow made the best out of it by asking Art Nouveau artist Stanislaw Wispianski to create Art Nouveau stained glassed windows. They are beautiful and add ambiance to the inside.

I recommend that you visit the Franciscan Church, when you are interested in Gothic architecture and Art Nouveau.

This church is beautifully wrought in a style reminiscent of Art Nouveau with beautifully executed stained glass.
Two rows from the back on the left was where John Paul II used to pray when he served Kraków. It's as close as one can get to a saint.
On the right side is the entrance to the monastery where Fr Kolbe (who died in Auschwitz sacrificing himself for another inmate with a family) served in life. There were also pictures of two other Franciscans who sacrificed their lives for the glory of God.
I had a very moving, spiritual experience which I think you should not miss.

The interior of this church is breath-taking. The cathedral alter, pulpit and other furnishings are dark, ornate wood contrasting against walls totalu painted in art nouveau designs and flowers. The stained glass over thre front entrance is a work of art - as is this whole church

Access to the catacombs under the church was onlynavailable once a year on the day of All SInts where Cracovians would queue round the block all day for the priviledge.Amazing place to be seen when possible as entry has been eased up recently and to be respected.Filled me with awe.

A beautiful church with some of the most spectacular stained glass windws in the region. A real hidden gem which appears to be overlooked by many of the crowds so it is unspoilt (unlike what other reviewers have found). If you really like your photography go mid morning on a sunny day to get the truly magnificent effect of the colour in the windows.
