It is definitely one of the most beautiful Gothic churches in Kraków. Unfortunately most of its furnishings were lost in the 19th century though the Baroque high altar from 1634 survives. However the cloister built in the time of Kazimierz the Great and decorated with Gothic murals and 17th century paintings is worth seeing, as is the south porch decorated with stonework and tracery.

St Katherine of Alexandria is a long way from home in Krakow - but she is adored all over the Catholic church as a martyr; she was also the inspiration for the sights of Joan of Arc.
In Krakow the Roman-Catholic church in her name is combined with a monastery, and there are some very beautiful frescos still to be seen in the courtyard around the cloister.
There are as in many churches a mix of styles; the Gothic part si still very visible but updated with both Renaissance and Baroque elements over time. The cross above the altar with little angels around the crucified Jesus is really astonishing.
To the left of the altar a door leads into the cloister part; it is also free of access although not clearly indicated but so worth the little detour to admire the true Gothic parts of the church.

Krakow’s abundance of magnificent churches together with the plentitude of its monasteries and convents earned the city a reputation of “the Northern Rome” in the past. They have remained the centers of spiritual life till now, attended throughout the week and crowded on Sundays.
A fine example of Cracow Gothic can be found down in Kazimierz at St. Catherine's, whilst nearby Corpus Christi has an extraordinarily moody atmosphere. St. Catherine's Church was founded by Kasimirus III The Great before 1363 for the Augustinian order.
Considered one of the finest high Gothic churches in Poland, it has no tower. The magnificent 17th century Baroque high altar with its painting of “The Mystical Marriage of St Catherine” by Andrea Venesta has been preserved. Adjoining cloisters contain recently restored frescos, and the church is very popular as a venue for classical music concerts due to its exceptionally fine acoustics.
Saint Rita who's an impressive sculpture in inside the church, is a passion among the mystics of the Church. One day I just took a sermon about the suffering of Christ, that she asked for the grace to share in the sufferings of the Saviour.
She is the holy of impossible things.
Every 22 day of the month the faithful gather in our parish church Saint. Catherine of Alexandria in Krakow mass. Mass celebrated for the intention of requests to God through the intercession of the holy stigmatic. After the Mass, celebrated the service, during which are read or sent a request made in person faithful painfully affected by the fate of the sick, the abandoned, betrayed, but not losing faith, come or send their intentions people coming not only from Krakow but also from all over the country, and even fellow citizens from abroad.

Located not far from the Wolnica Square in the Christian part of former Kazimierz town (now known mostly as the former Jewish quarter) St. Katherine and Margaret Church and the accompanying monastery of Augustian monks is one of the most mysterious sites in Krakow. This large complex dating back to 14th century can be unjustly overlooked as it is not being located on any of the main tourist trails. The imposing gothic basilica (almost equal in size and class to St. Mary's Church at Rynek) is completed by enchanting monastery that is easily accessible by everyone. Do not miss the interior of both the church and the monastery, find the "secret" (at least to tourists) passage and enjoy one of the oldest pieces of wall painting in all of Poland. Because of church's great acoustics you might be lucky to attend some of the music concert organised there. Points of interest might include also: the largest portion of Kazimierz's medieval town walls along the Paulińska street nearby and the Skałka Shrine some 200 metres futher along the Skałeczna Street. Truly a magical and still calm part of the historical centre of Krakow (all the objects described are also part of UNESCO list) - truly worth exploring when they're still not overrun by crowds of tourists.

Visited as my friend was singing in So Vocal choir here. This 14th century church is certainly a fine venue for a concert, with good acoustics. The gothic architecture along with some baroque interiors are certainly worth a visit to see if your in the area.

The impressive structure of this 14th Cent. Gothic style church (and monastry) , occupies a full block in Kazimierz, only a few minutes walk from Jozefa Street . So if you are in the area do stop here to see yet another beautiful example of Krakow's churches .

Interesting gothic church - do walk down the cloisters to find the additional altars. Look up - what is that eye, what are those cabinets high up on the right hand side?
