Pleasant green belt surrounding the old town
The park is 4 km in length. It is replacing the old city walls and fortifications dismantled during the 1820s. A very good decision by the then city authorities to plant trees and bushes in an area where stone buildings would have been the negative alternative. Planty park is very well maintained. Better than many parks in the Western part of Europe, as you do not see garbage or graffiti on sculptures and benches. Though more quiet than the old town and adjacent suburban residential areas, there is a road with lots of motorized traffic close by. You will find more peace and quiet in the hills further away from the center of Krakow.

Circular Park Around The Old Town
This park is a circular shape and runs around the outside of the old town. There's plenty of places to pop in and get a coffee and a snack. We came here in January so it was very chilly, so we didn't want to sit on the benches, but when we came back in august the weather was lovely and we stopped on a few occasions for a sit down to people watch.

Great green space surrounding Krakow Old Town!
Planty is a very pleasant park surrounding the Old Town. It has lots of nice paths for walking and covered with big trees. Previously the area was occupied by the defensive moats surrounding the city, which were filled in during the 1800s and eventually made into the current wonderful green space.

Planty is one of the largest city parks which encircles the Old Town, where the Medieval city walls used to stand until the early 19th century. It is beautiful every season of the year. I reccommend to walk it all around.

This lush park encircles Krakow Old Town.

It was once the site of the city’s 13th-century defensive fortifications. During Austrian occupation in the first half of the 19th century, the moats were filled for a park.

This three-kilometer park is filled with trees, flowers, benches, and historic monuments.

This interesting Planty park surrounds the Stare Miasto or old town of krakow. Very neatly placed around the old town that serves as boundary. It’s a nice and safe place to go for a walk at night. There are benches around as well to relax and contemplate. Sometimes it’s nice to get out of the touristy crowd in the old town.

I am guessing that I live on another planet given most of the reviews but this was average for me. The park surrounds the Old Town. Yes there are historical monuments amongst other things and you get a good view of various buildings around the Old Town. Your likely to walk all or part of it whilst visiting the many tourist attractions. There are benches along the way. I am guessing it depends when you go. There was grass, trees and a lot of bird droppings but nothing that made it a 'pretty' park. Having said this, I walked part of it early morning when it was snowing a little and this was nice and cosy. When I went back another day, it just felt ordinary to me. It was a nice breath of fresh air to get away from the busy Old Town but I just don't think it was stunning or a must.

A nice open space to walk through if you’re looking to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the old town square. It was nice to escape here for a stroll through the planty which was the former defendable moat that surrounded the old town.

We had a pleasurable stroll through the area on a nice fresh spring morning, not so attractive on a wet or miserable day. There are plenty of paths to take with ample benches to choose from to carry out some people watching. There are plenty of opportunities to step off the park to obtain some snacks or refreshments from the local shops or some street vendors.

A nice walk to take a break or kill some time - nothing more.

A little gem in the heart of the city - spent a good few hours there just wandering around, sitting on a park bench and listening to the birds sing. Lovely!

Stayed in many parts of the Planty to sit and relax on a recent trip to Krakow. Gets you out of the hustle and bustle of the crowds, a nice place to sit and eat your Zapiekanki !!!

The Planty is a circular park/green belt roughly approximating the city's medieval fortifications built between the 13th and 15th Centuries. It contains multiple statues, landscaped gardens, and alcoves with benches scattered throughout.

I made 3-4 walks around the Planty in my week in the city, largely just to stroll around and while away the hours. The park can be appreciated at day and night equally. Highlights include a statue of Copernicus, a view of Kosciuszko's mound from Pilsudski St., and nighttime views of many structures made to seem more imposing than in the daytime.

A great escape and worth an hour or two if only to get away from the crowds.

This park goes around the old town and if you are staying at a hotel nearby, it is excellent for a morning run. The entire distance plus around the Wawel Castle grounds is approximately 4km, according to my Garmin watch.

For me this is the most amazing and unique thing about Krakow. Forget the square, castle or cathedral- all of which are impressive but I have seen similar in other cities.

I have never seen anything like this ring of gardens that encircles the old town. Not only is it a lovely place to stroll or to sit and relax but it is actually very useful in getting you between some of the central bits of the city.

There are flowers/trees/sculptures/beautiful buildings and one particularly nice cafe. In general, apart from being beautifully maintained the space has been left alone, so you aren't bombarded by advertising or people trying to sell you things.

A little haven of peace in a busy world.
