We were really looking forward to visiting here but unfortunately it was spoiled by the rudest member of staff I have ever encountered.

We visited on Sunday 12th March at around 12.30pm. As I entered, a lady from the reception desk started shouting at me and pointing to the front door. I thought she was telling me they were closed and to leave. However, I soon realised she was shouting at me to close the front door behind me. However, there was a whole family leaving as I was entering so it wasn’t appropriate.

I was so shocked in her behaviour that I was unsure I wanted to visit however we did. We were served by a very pleasant man to pay for our tickets all the while the lady glared and us and muttered what seemed like expletives under her breath.

The Synagogue itself was very interesting to walk round and we learnt so much. I am glad we stayed but overall she really spoilt our visit. This member of staff could genuinely be loosing the synagogue money and leaving an awful impression on what should be a very special place.

Queued for 15 minutes to try to get tickets, despite only 1 person in the queue in front of us. No word of apology or explanation from the two staff in the entrance, so we left.
The only good thing was that as we were waiting we heard some amazing singing coming from men inside, but didn't know what it symbolised.

As we were walking in Kazimierz, and we got some time we visited the Old Synagogue.
This synagogue is the oldest synagogue still standing in Krakow - it was build somewhere in the 1400's, although there is still some uncertainty about the year of the building if it is 1402 or 1492 (there are various sources stating different dates).
Now, for me it was very interesting ( I did not been in many synagogues, so it is always very interesting to visit a synagogue).
In the early days of its construction it has been part of the fortifications of Kazimierz, even today it you take a few steps to the back of the synagogue you can see part of the old fortification walls.
This particular was a synagogue until 1939 - than during WWII it has been closed , and later used as a warehouse - after the WWII it has been renovated between 1956 and 1959 and since 1959 it is a museum.
The visitor will see on display religious objects - divers and very interesting - also posters with the history of the Jewish community in the area of Kazimierz.
Overall definitely worth visiting - and unless you are on a guided tour, you can visit the synagogue in like 45 min to an hour.

Short textual information about the oldest synagogue in Poland. Much information about important parts of Judaism and how the groups of Jews in Krakow lived in relation to each other and Krakow. Very small and looked like it was "fixed up" with white paint, which made it not feel authentic (you can only see a very small part of how big the building is).
The checkout staff seemed very uninterested in servicing though.

Located in the Jewish Quarter ( Kazimierz ) is the Old Synagogue, a wonderful and evocative looking synagogue that's always a joy to view on any holiday I take to Krakow.
Constructed between 1407-1492 ,the Old Synagogue is the oldest standing synagogue in Poland, what I love about seeing this synagogue is the fact it's still present as during World War Two and under the tyranny of the German Army Krakow and the Jewish Quarter in particular nearly all vestiges of the Jewish faith were obliterated, its a synagogue most definitely well worth checking out if you're in the area and easy to locate along Ulica Szeroka.

It is interesting to see this old synagogue but I would venture to say that you need to take time to see and to particularly understand the exhibits contained within.

This museum held a certain unknown draw on me although not Jewish there was a definite sense of connection.

The artefacts and history of the Jewish faith made sense and felt right at home.

Located on the most beautifully streets in the Jewish Quarter namely Ulica Szeroka is the Old Synagogue ,a truly historic building indeed.
Constructed between 1407-1492 it is Poland's oldest standing synagogue building, although no longer a place of worship ,this building is great to view when you consider that during the German Army occupation of Krakow during World War Two nearly all vestiges of the Jewish faith were more or less obliterated ,we viewed the synagogue building at night,it looked amazing bathed in the moonlight,it's a synagogue building I highly recommend you check out if your in the Jewish Quarter and easy to locate along Ulica Szeroka.

In Kazimierz district there are many Jewish places and this is definitely the largest synagogue to visit. Recommendation to go there and take the time you need because the visit is really well done and there are some great explanations that tell well about Jewish life and customs.
