Walking around the beautiful Wawel Castle and Cathedral is something I always enjoy on any trip to Krakow I take, one of the landmark statues here is in honour of Tadeusza Kosciuszki.
Tadeusza Kosciuszki ( 1746-1817 ) was a Polish militery engineer who became a national hero in Poland ,Lithuania ,Belarus ,France and the United States Of America .
He fought against the armies of Russia and Prussia in a combined army of Poland and Lithuania ,this statue and monument in his honour is one of the most famous statues in Poland, made from bronze and the work of sculptor Leonard Marconi ,it's a beautiful and animated equestrian statue that certainly catches the imagination,a statue to be proud of, it's certainly well worth checking out if you're planning on visiting Wawel Castle and Cathedral.

No doubt Tadeus Kosciuszko who died in 1817 is Poland's most famous freedom fighter. His contribution to the struggle for the emancipation of not just oppressed Poles, but of the Americans in the British colonies as well, is appreciated worldwide. The man was far ahead of his time opposing slavery in the USA and freeing his own people at his Polish estate, though this was undone by the Russian tsar.
There are numerous statues of Kosciuszko in Poland and the US, but also in Lithuania and Belarus. In Krakow, Kosciuszko is depicted as a man on a horse. Note he is not bearing arms. Perhaps a result of an effort by the sculptor to get approval from the Austrian authorities in charge of Krakow at the time the bronze statue was cast in 1900. Eventually it was placed here in the 1920s when the Polish state was reestablished. The present version is a 1960 replica, as the Nazis destroyed the original in 1940. I understood the Soviet Union in 1960 did not object.
Though close to part of Kosciuszko's remains in Wawel cathedral, the statue is not at a very prominent place. For those interested: Kosciuszko's heart is in a chapel of the Royal castle in Warsaw. Other internal organs were buried in a cemetery in Switzerland where the hero spent his last years in exile.

This equestrian statue stands at the west side entrance (or exit) to the Wawel castle. It depicts Kosciuszko, a Polish and American hero of the American Revolutionary War. He started off as a colonel and got promoted to brigadier general in 1783 and granted American citizenship.
Tadeusz Kościuszko died in Switzerland on October 15, 1817.

This statue of a Polish American hero is towering over the path leading to the Wawel Cathedral , right after you go through , under the first archway , coming from the Old Town . this now , is a replica that was errected after the original was destroyed by the Germans in 1940 . Google it up for interesting info .
