Having spent the morning (10/03) walking around Schindlers Factory, it seemed fitting to finish the afternoon completing a 2.5hr walking tour around the Jewish Quarter.

We were greeted by the lovely and engaging Anya who not only had outstanding knowledge of the beloved Kazimierz area but drew from her own personal education having studied Jewish heritage in University, giving it that even more personal and fact-filled approach.

The tour started outside the Old Synagogue and travelled roughly 2 miles around various historical sites around the Jewish Quarter to finally conclude at Hero's Square (roughly 5 minute walk from Schindlers Factory). Along our travels Anya did not shy away from the stories and harrowing conditions Jewish residents faced during the world war.

Along the 2.5 hours Anya recommended a number of bars and restauarants which we later visited during our stay giving the tour a more personal touch.

With small groups of no more than 20 it was extremely easy to not only keep in time with the pace of the group but could always hear the great stories and facts even whilst standing at the back.

Walkative! Krakow tours are a group I cannot recommend enough and despite being free their professionalism and tours are up there with the big leagues.

If it's one thing I recommend is tip and tip what you believe it's worth. If you're lucky enough to not only experience the Jewish Quarter tour and better yet have Anya, you'll find a hard reason to tip less than 100 Zloty.

The first day I turned up for a Walkative old city tour was the day that the coronavirus restrictions started to hit Krakow so I only stayed with the guide for 10 minutes before leaving in a mad dash for the Salt Mines before they closed. Within those 10 minutes, I was reprimanded twice times via subtle digs for being 4 minutes late to the meeting point, and the group was asked at a bunch of history questions that of course, we couldn't answer. I wasn't sad to leave my first guide behind.

The next day I reported (on time) for another go at the Old City free walking tour. The guide was Ania and she was fantastic - fun, enthusiastic, and knowledgable. - her degree is in Polish history. It was a brilliant walking tour.

Later the same day I joined the Jewish History walking tour and strategically ensured that I ended up with Ania as my guide and WOW! In her history degree, she specialised in Jewish history in Poland. Her passion and knowledge were incredibly moving.

Do not miss a tour with Ania if you are in Krakow. She does some of the free walking tours but you can also book her as a private guide.

I actually visited in October 2019, however due to travelling all over the world for the last 12 months, I am just in the process of writing all the reviews. What a fantastic way to kick off a 4 night stay in Krakow. We did the Old Town Walking Tour firstly. The Old Town area is beautiful and it was brilliant having a tour of the area when we first arrived to get our bearings and decide what we wanted to do. Jakob, our guide, was very knowledgeable and entertaining throughout. It was a lovely October morning with the sun shining bright. He recommend places for us to eat, foods and drinks to try and give us some general tourist information. We even saw him the next day on the bus and we was kind enough to help us out as we didn’t have a clue how to work the machines! I would 100% recommend this tour.

Next we did a walking tour of the Main Square Underground museum the next night which was very interesting and it definitely brought the information to life more than simply reading the plaques on the wall. I did expect more of underground tunnels with artefacts than a modern underground museum but nevertheless, the information about the history of the area was still interesting. Our tour guide, Natalia, was lovely and very knowledgeable. It was only my friend and I on the tour which made it more personal as well. If you’re short on time in Krakow, it’s not worth a visit however it is a charming little museum but I would definitely recommend taking the guided tour!

Finally we decided to take a guided tour of Schindler’s Factory museum which was fantastic! You could visit the museum without the tour as there’s plenty of information to read at your own pace however I felt we got a lot more information about the history and factory as a whole by choosing the guided tour and the facts were definitely brought to life more. Our tour guide, Lucy, was very knowledgeable and answered all the questions the group had. The museum includes timed visits so we did have a wait a short while before entering but once inside, we could take as much time as we wanted with Lucy’s guidance. The museum is definitely worth a visit and I thoroughly enjoyed the guided tour so I would recommend this 100%.

My wife and I have just left Krakow and these walking tours have really helped enhance our trip to this wonderful city. I picked up a leaflet at our hotel and thought, why not give them a try. Lets face it they're free (ish). We booked onto the tour for the Jewish quarter of Krakow. Our guide Matt was well spoken, knowledgeable and passionate about the subject and his city. He guided us around the area filling us with information we would never have gained on our own. At the end of the tour you are given the opportunity to tip the guide. It's their living and we gave him the equivalent of £10 gbp. Money well spent and we immediately booked ourselves on the other 3 free tours, none of which disappointed. In short if you want to make the most of your visit to Krakow book yourself on these tours they are excellent.

We did the Macabre Tour today with Jacek/Jack. He was very friendly, and told the stories in such a way that held your attention for the whole duration. He took the vibe of the tour seriously, he even dressed the part! It was funny and dark, my friends and I would recommend that visitors take this tour during their stay in Krakow!

Last weekend we visited Macabre Kraków free tour with the tour guide Damian. Tour was really interesting (A bit scary 🙂) and our guide was brilliant! Despite the fact that we are living in Kraków for some time we visited some places on the city center where we never have been before and heard stories which surprised us a lot! I can recommend this tour for tourists and locals as well. Additionally, timing is really good, tour is done when it is dark already outside, so in summer it is not hot anymore and you can enjoy it without any troubles ☺️

We went on a Free Walking Tour in Kraków Old Town with Max but we were fairly disappointed.
The guide started the tour saying that he needs to pay to the city for each tour he makes and that we should pay at the end. And during the tour he was making marketing for other paid tours.
The stories he was telling about Kraków weren't very interesting and sometimes even had nothing to do with the city itself. And really this is a magnificent city with full of fascinating stories and a long history (traces of inhabitants back in the Paleolithic era). The worst thing was that he spent 30 min explaining the history of Europe from the 10th century up to 1990 while he mentioned very little about the role of Cracow in this presentation. It wasn't necessary at all as we all had history lessons at school and it didn't help us understand why Cracow was so important and why it was the Polish capital for few centuries.

We don't recommend this tour at all. Only if you have 3 hours of nothing to do in Cracow (which is very rare because there are plenty of attractions here).

Myself and my partner thoroughly enjoyed our World War II Tour with Tomasz (Big Tom) today. Even though it was a free tour and clearly something he delivers regularly, we still really felt his passion for the history and his enthusiasm about the City. We both came away from the tour feeling as though we had really got a feel for City during the war and having learnt things we would not have otherwise come to know. If we had more time we would have liked to have done the Jewish your also but perhaps that is an excuse to return in the future!

We did the Jewish Quarter walking tour with Alice.
A really informative and moving tour. We thought it would be about the buildings etc but it was about trying to visualise the life of the people and what they had to endure in the real setting
Alice our guide was easy to listen to we found ourselves welling up at some points as it shows how well she tried to get across the existence these people were trying to live through on a day to day basis.
At the time my husband wasn’t as keen to do a walking tour but It’s one of the best thing we did whilst here. We are glad we booked it
We voluntarily gave 100PLN as felt that was a fee rather than a tip as she gave a good tour.

We have participated in Jewish walking tour in Krakow this week. Tour was lead by Mateusz. There were some pros and cons of the tour:

+
Mateusz spoke perfect English and it was super easy to understand him everything, there were some great fun facts on the tour, super easy to find the meeting point

-
There is lot of walking on the tour. By lot of walking, problem is not the distance but sometimes we had about 10 min on foot from one stop to another without any interaction or info. Personally I would appreciate more info and some personal stories or examples from WW2 and Holocaust, not only description of synagogues and locations of filming Schindler's list (yes, it is important to show it, but 1-2 stops would be more than enough). Something what bothered me most is that Mateusz interacted with only 2-3 persons in the group between the stops. Being the tourist guide myself, I know how important is to keep the whole group active, entertained and interested in topic during the whole tour. After 2,5 hours of the tour, in my opinion half of the group was totally exhausted without any interest more.

All in all, I am really glad that we have participated in this tour. I would lie if I would say that I didn't learn anything, but I've expected more. We have tipped Mateusz generously because it isn't easy to talk in front of someone for such a long time. Would I come again on the same tour, probably not. Please bear in mind this is only mine subjective opinion. Thank you very much.
