Nice market, few restaurants and shops.
Its a pity the place has so much to offer but only market is available. The rest is in really bad condition. Some of the buildings are painted in some strange colors. I could not believe someone allow to do this...

Really nice place to visit. A hidden gem. Take an Uber to visit it because it is not within walking distance of the centre. The place is really nice, authentic and not very touristic! It also has a nice restaurant to have coffee with cake.

Visit Nikiszowiec, it's like a journey back in time. This is a workers' housing estate from the beginning of the 20th century. Wonderful brick blocks are a real gem of architecture. Be sure to check out the inner squares - you will take you to a green garden from a cobbled street. Often organized here are all kinds of picnics and festivals, on the occasion of which there are many attractions for children.

When Silesia become a mine imperium, people needed a new apartments near their work. Nikiszowiec is one of them, build in 1908 for miners from "Giesche" mine.
In 2014 Nikiszowiec is essential of Silesia architecture in one place. In fifteen minutes you can learn more, then a whole day in city center.

Nikiszowiec is one of the latest discoveries in Katowice, it's been here like always ( I mean related to the history of the city), but nobody cares.
And some day somebody did something like: 'Look what we've got here, why didn't we see it before? This place is awesome, let's make some benefits from it!'. And whoever it was, we should be thankful for this beautiful, but still developing place.
I think, I don't have to say how beautiful and extraordinary it is. It is an unique housing estate and it is perfect maintained.
When you are walking between those buildings, you can feel the atmosphere of what's already gone.
There is small museum, but it's worth seeing. It is placed in old laundry building, it is now restored and you can see there two different exhibitions - one connected with everyday life in Nikiszowiec and the second one is temporal - e.g. there are paintings made by painters from Nikiszowiec (T. Ociepka, P. Wróbel, E. Bąk e.t.c.)
Not so long time ago, there was nothing but streets, buildings and this beautiful church (you definitely MUST see it inside) to see, it is changing now - there is this lovely cafe - Byfyj, where you can sit and rest, and taste some delicious cake.
There are also a lot of events organized on the market - you have to check it, and plan your visit, when some of them is taking place!

If are interested in discovering amazing places with its own original character don't hesitate to visit Nikiszowiec. It's an old coal miners' area. It's been designed and planned to fulfil all needs of its inhabitants. Beautiful brick buildings and green yards create special atmosphere. There all Silesian traditions are still alive. After sightseeing go to the bakery and try delicious typical cakes.

If You are interested in history in Katowice You have no chances to visit old castles or monumental cathedrals. It used to be industrial location from the very beginning. But... You can find many places where there are remainings of industrial history. Nikiszowiec is one of such places. Old living quarter which used to be home for people related to coal mining. Now its being restored, so its a good place if You want to have a little walk, check historical buildings or eat a good food. There are few very good restaurants located in the area.

Beeing a half silesian I've always wanted to visit Nikiszowiec. Finally after so many years I've managed to go there and I'm totally stunned by the architecture. It's very well preserved with a mind blowing architecture. The main church is extremely photogenic, especially when you shoot with a wide angle lens towards the altar. Definitely a "must-see" place if you ever encounter to visit this part of Silesia.

I visited the neighbourhood during a street festival, where there was delicious local food, like cheese and sausages, and there was entertainment for children. It was lively, and even the rain couldn't ruin the beauty of this place, with the typical war-era brick buildings, the white and red window frames on each of them, the arches, and the church in the middle, that had bright coloured-glass windows (depicting religious scenes and the Pope, John Paul II) and tall golden figures and angels decorating the altar.

I first read a book about Nikiszowiec and Giszowiec, then visited those places myself. Nikiszowiec is amazing, and even more so if you know its history and see more in it than just a picturesque little red-brick town-in-town. Still, even if you can't be bothered to do a little digging, you will still be amazed. It's a stunning place, the architecture is absolutely unique yet very Silesian.
