The Polish head of state, Piłsudski, had a favourite mare. For unknown reasons the monument in Katowice is probably the only one where he sits on a stallion instead. This seems quite ironic, as Piłsudski was never very popular among Upper Silesians (Katowice is the only major city in Poland without a street named after him). The monument was created by a Croat, Antun Augustinčić, before WW2, but was only erected in Katowice in the 90s.
