About
Gizycko’s most interesting monument of exceptional historic value and tourist appeal is the Boyen Fortress. It is a rare example of a 19th century Prussian-school fortification and is one of the best preserved monuments of defensive architecture of the 19th century in Poland.

There are 3 touristic routes to follow, all of them relatively easy to do. Some of the buildings are pretty much damaged and forgotten, while some others have a nice exhibit. Fortifications are in bad condition. Very short a general panels with information about history.

The most interesting historic landmark of Gizycko, worth visiting not only by those who take interest in history but anyone interested in defensive architecture of 19th century-Poland.

Nice area, but my feeling that site stop in 1990. There should be more interactive exhibitions and guided tours as well. It is nice for hot days a lot od trees and shadows.

Nice walk with the kids and dog, but limited if you have a pushchair - they have well marked routes for those whom want to avoid stairs which is helpful
Otherwise nothing “breathtaking” about this place

Fort Boyen may not be the most spectacular of forts or fortresses, but it is well worth wandering around and exploring on one of the 2 or 3 paths that are available and signed out on a map that is provided with your entrance ticket. In the first large brick building on the left side of the entrance, you will find some interesting exhibits about the local history and the history of the fort during world war 1.. some of the buildings of the fort have been restored and can be visited, others are being restored or are falling apart and thus are off limits for visitors.

Very few things to see. Everything is a mess and full of rubish. I recommed to avoid this place. Ticket costs 12 zl. But time is lost while visiting this place.

We walked from our hotel and then around the fortress with some side trips whenever we saw something interesting to go explore. It was a long way around. The carriage and sleigh display was nice. Also, the Polish military had a display of equipment within the fortress. Being retired US Army , it was interesting to talk to the Polish Army soldiers and look at the self propelled artillery pieces. I took lots of photos.

Great place to learn more about the history of the Mazurian region and its turbulent past. Lovely walk on top of the fortress especially in a lovely sunny day- great views
