I have been visiting Elblag since 2006 and mostly stay in the Old Town. In that period the town and the surrounding environment has been changing for the better particular in the past two years as mentioned in other reviews I have always found something new to visit each time I go there and on my last visit for Easter I found the Museum of Archaeology and History is now completed so you can visit both house exhibitions. I was also surprised to see it opens early on a Sunday. A great place to find the history and original exhibits going back to the Viking period for this part of Poland. My only criticism is that no one spoke English on my recent visit whilst every shop i visited in town had at least one person that spoke good English. For any first time visitor I recommend a first port of call to the Tourist office in the Town Hall, then St Nicholas Cathedral and climb the steps , then the Archaeological Museum, then the El Gallery 'Art Center' in the former Dominican Church. Elblag is also a great place to tour from with the Nicolaus Copernicus Museum and Cathedral in Frombork a short drive towards the Russian border and the amazing Teutonic Castle from the Crusade period in Malbork. The above is only a start for me as I still have not seen the famous Elblag rail /canal and several war time historical places both near Elblag and Gdansk. Elblag is an ideal safe place for family's or lone travelers in my view.

Very nice place that stays open late. Fairly quiet in December. Bars and restaurants good and area small and clean.

I visited the Old Town numerous times during my visit to Elblag and loved it. There are numerous restaurants and cafes to pick up food during the day! One evening, we chose to have food out and walked along the canal as the sun was setting which was lovely. We also visited the Cathedral and climbed up the winding staircase, giving us a stunning view of the city. Despite being a bit of a climb, it was well worth it. Not to mention, the architecture is so unusual to other cities I have visit. Definitely worth taking a few snaps! The Old Town is also a short distance from the shopping centre, which has plenty of shops and cafes for everyone! Although the town is small, if you are near the area, it's worth the visit!

Quite nice place to have a stroll and look around. Plenty of cafes and restaurants to have something to drink, although there is not really a central square.

This city was damaged in WWII and it has been renovates but it looks too new so if you are looking for an Old Town (like for example Gdansk) you won't find it here although is a nice walk.

You can take the boat to travel the canals from here...we decided not to do it here since it takes about 4 hrs boat ride and we did not feel like it, so we went directly to one of the stops about 30 mins drive from here and were able to see the whole system in work from Pochylnia Buczyniec.

Looks nice and well worth of visit, located in the bank of Elblag Canal. Small shops, cafes and so on as it should be in such old towns. Was not overcrowded, at least in the beginning of May. Really can recommend to visit.

Very small but pretty town. The lack of cars made it feel a little like a street in a theme park. The museum has little in the way of English signs so not the most exciting experience. There is an absolutely amazing cake and ice cream shop that is well worth a visit!!

Elbląg's Old Town isn't such 'old' and unfortunately we see this during walking. There are only a few historic objects built before World War II, really destructive time for this city. What we have now, is an attempt to restore former beauty. In my opinion, done well. Of course, we can have a problem with deficiency of historic soul, but it is not such a big problem.

Plenty of restaurants and pubs to visit.

The city was badly damaged in WW2. Recently an attempt has started to bring back something of the old glory.
Some very interesting new developments with 18th century inspired design.
Nice, and personally I appreciate the attempt.
However, what is lacking is an old city atmosphere. A soul. It’s all too planned and too practical.
Probably need to return in 5 years to let it develop, but for now: there are more interesting places to spend your time while on holiday.

You could do a full tour of Elblag old town in 2-3 hours and cover the bulk of places to see, compared to Gdansk old town there is a vast difference, building s are going up in the old town which do not blend in well, Elblag old town is not really a tourist place, but it is definately a place to eat, there are restaurants everywhere and people are drawn to the area for the choice of food available
