Loitz'z House is one of very few historical buildings from medieval times in Szczecin that survived until this days. Its lone silhouette stands halfway thorough between the Castle and Basilica. Built in years 1539-47 was abandoned by its owners just after 25 years. Bankrupted bankers family of Loitz simply ran away and house was taken over by dukes of Pomerania. After fall of Duchy of Pomerania in first half of 17th century house became seat of Swedish councilman. In 18th century, Dubendorf brothers has opened confectionery there, called "Dwór Szwajcarski" ("Swiss Manor"). Its interior was completely burned out due to the bomb raid of 1944. The building was renovated eleven years later, and converted into an art school. One of the characteristic features of this late Gothic house are slanted windows of its staircase. Also, a copy of 16th century bas-relief is embedded in eastern elevation of the house, the original is kept in National Museum of Szczecin. It looks good overall, but it didn't blow me away. Just a curiosity that I looked at along the way.
