The main building of National Museum, opened in 1945, located at Waly Chrobrego (Ramparts of the Brave) was on the day of our visit, unfortunately, still temporarily closed. Too bad. What I can say about the main seat of the museum ,housed in former Municipal Museum building constructed before 1912, is that it is an impressive edifice built in Eclectic Style characteristic for that epoch. Apart from main building museum have five other branches, all located in, or near, city centre, and boasting themselves of over 150 of thousands of exhibits in total, divided into few sections of archaeology, ancient and modern art, historical, numismatic, nautical and ethnographical. Apart from permanent exhibitions museum organizes temporary exhibitions on various topics. Again, too bad that it was closed down, because tickets aren't expensive and cost only 12 PLN (around £ 3) for an adult person (between 16 and 59 years of age). Museum is also family friendly. Ticket for family of 5 costs 25PLN ( around£ 6 -7, depends on daily exchange rate). Kids up to 7 years old having free entrance. As for pensioners and disabled persons with their minders, ticket price is reduced by 50%. As far as I know, the museum began to gradually open for visitors this month (September) on, so, if by any chance you're around, check the museum's website for details (English version is available) and pop in and dive into history of Pomerania, among the others. If I'd rated my experience as average only, it's just simply because we couldn't actually see on our own eyes its exhibit. The museum's main building is pretty impressive, but without seeing what they got in their display cases I can't give them better rating, I'm afraid.

2 floors, a lot to see at a low price. No central theme is apparent - more like a huge antique shop with different sections.
No translation to English on 2nd floor meant exhibits not given any context. On ground floor labels in English but explanation text in Polish only.
Little effort made to entertain non-Polish visitors but with entry at 3 euros a visit is still worthwhile if you have time. But still would be good, and not too much work, for museum staff to have produced printed translations.
The Lady at the ticket office not at all cheerful or welcoming in long tradition of museum babooshkas in Soviet times.

There is not so much to see - but when I was there in Jyly there was an exhibtion about Slawomir Lewinsky - with everything explained in English. If yoy want to see all six parts of the museum - in six places - ask for the ticket for all six !

This museum is as big as they get. The walkway leading to it is renovated and in superb condition as is the building itself. On hot days its qiute busy but still worth the wait and visit.

National Museum in Szczecin main branch is located on Wały Chrobrego in big grey building with a tower, and holds the name of Maritime Museum. The address given here (Staromłyńska Street) takes you to the Modern Art Galleries, which is also a branch of National Museum in Szczecin. Main building is in most attractive place in town, on high river Odra embankment. Boulevard below the museum is always full with special colourfull and loud events, so don't get pulled away from the entrance! The clue to the exhibitions is in the museums name: there's everything you would expect - sea, ships and seamen. If you are brave enough, after you got familiar with everything relating to sea, you can think about climbing some of 300 steps to get to the top of the viewing tower. This is one of at least three such structures in Szczecin (in really close distance) but with the hardest reach (narrow steep steps, no place to rest), so if you are not fit - go to the cathedral and let the lifts do the job for you. Ticket for the museum permanent exhibitions doesn't cover the tower, you need to spend a bit more for an opportunity to sweat out on the staircase.

The location is perfect, right next to the promenade and with a breathtaking view of the river and the docks. We visited two temporary exhibition (Danish art and African puppets) and both were incredible (the second would have improved with some information in English). Highly recommended!
